Edited on Fri Dec-22-06 02:06 AM by flamingyouth
Two people are dead, and one person unaccounted for, after a Black Hawk helicopter crashed in southeast King County on Thursday night.

King County Sheriff's Office spokesperson said the Black Hawk went down near Mount Peak just outside the town of Enumclaw.

A woman who lives nearby said she heard a helicopter pass overhead, followed by an explosion around 9 p.m.

Search and rescue teams are currently combing the area for more clues.

Helicopter crashes in South King County

By Seattle Times staff reports

King County sheriff's deputies and a citizen found a crashed Blackhawk military helicopter south of Enumclaw tonight.

At least two people are believed to have been killed in the crash, said sheriff's Sgt. Rodney Chinnick. The helicopter was found just after 10 p.m. near the 27700 block of SE Mud Mountain Road, halfway up Mt. Peak.

Details weren't released, but a helicopter was from Fort Lewis, Chinnick said. There were three people on board, he said. A Fort Lewis spokesman was unavailable for comment tonight. It's unclear how long the helicopter was missing from the army base.

Emergency calls from South King County came into the sheriff's office dispatch center shortly before 8:30 p.m. People reported hearing what they believed was an aircraft crashing, Chinnick said. As of 11 p.m., deputies, tracking dogs and volunteers with King County Search and Rescue were searching the rural area for the possible survivor, Chinnick said.

Edited to add http://www.king5.com/ has a story also, video of some sort.
