Dec. 21, 2006

Two Coalition service members killed in Al Anbar
Multi-National Force – West PAO

CAMP FALLUJAH, Iraq – One Soldier assigned to Regimental Combat Team 7 died
Tuesday and one Marine assigned to 1st Brigade, 1st Armored Division died today from
wounds sustained due to enemy action while operating in Al Anbar Province.

The names of the deceased are being withheld pending notification of next of kin
and release by the Department of Defense.

Roadside bomb kills one U.S. soldier south of Baghdad

BAGHDAD, Iraq: A bomb killed an American soldier and wounded three others
south of the Iraqi capital, the U.S. military said Thursday.

The soldiers were part of a combat patrol that was escorting servicemen
to a base when the roadside bomb exploded Wednesday, the military said.

The name of the slain soldier was withheld pending notification of family.

5. Us, the Brits, Danes, Poles, Romanians
A few others. Mostly us and the Brits; they've got about as large a percentage of their army over here as we do. The Italians and Japanese have nearly all left, but they turned their provinces over to the Iraqis first (three provinces down, only 15 to go; six behind the anticipated pace announced six months ago).

The two most exotic coalition partners I've seen are a) an Icelandic major who's part of the NATO mission and b) an Estonian Navy lieutenant. Who knew Estonia had a navy?

Oh, and a handful of Georgians do checkpoint security. I think they're actual troops; not private security guards like the Peruvians who man most of the checkpoints. It's hard to tell, because the Georgians use all U.S.-supplied gear (including uniforms), except their AK-47s.
