U.S. military says two soldiers killed in bomb attacks in Iraq

The Associated Press
Published: December 20, 2006

BAGHDAD, Iraq: Roadside bombs killed two American soldiers and wounded another
six in separate incidents on Wednesday, the U.S. military said.

One bomb exploded when a combat patrol was on the way to investigate an explosion
in an area southwest of Baghdad, the military said in a statement. One soldier was
killed and four were injured.

A second soldier was slain in an explosion in a southern neighborhood of the Iraqi
capital, the military said.

"The combat patrol was conducting a route clearance mission in order to free the
roads of any possible dangers," the military statement said. "As they conducted
their mission, a roadside bomb exploded near one of their vehicles, killing one and
wounding two other soldiers."

The names of the slain servicemen were withheld pending notification of family.
