WASHINGTON (AFP) - Dennis Kucinich (news - web sites) is running his presidential campaign on a shoestring budget compared to other contenders, but he does have a galaxy of endorsements from the intellectual 'literati' and Hollywood 'glitterati."
The US representative from the midwestern state of Ohio has an all-star cast backing his longshot bid to win the Democratic Party presidential nomination from eight rivals.
Next week, for example, Kucinich has a rally in San Francisco with Pulitzer Prize-winner Alice Walker, author of the novel "The Color Purple."
A few weeks later, country music legend Willie Nelson (news) headlines a benefit concert in Austin, Texas, with proceeds going to the Kucinich campaign.
Rock musicians Ani DiFranco (news) and Michelle Shocked (news) have also announced they are backing Kucinich. "He's not a self-aggrandizing strategist or corporate whore," said DiFranco. "He's the real thing."
