Government Seeks New Ruling in Cheney Case
The Bush administration asked an appeals court Wednesday to overrule a federal judge and allow the White House to keep secret any records of visitors to Vice President Dick Cheney's residence and office.

To make the visitor records public would be an "unprecedented intrusion into the daily operations of the vice presidency," the Justice Department argued in a 57-page brief to the U.S. Court of Appeals in the District of Columbia.

The government was responding to an October order, by U.S. District Judge Ricardo M. Urbina, to release two years of White House visitor logs to The Washington Post. The newspaper, researching the access lobbyists and others had on the White House, sought
Secret Service records for anyone visiting Cheney, his legal counsel, chief spokesman and other top aides and advisers.

In his ruling, Urbina questioned the government's primary argument against releasing the records — that the logs are protected by Cheney's right to executive privilege.

1. I want a transparent VP, I paid the Secret Service to keep those logs
on who visited with the man I pay the salary for, in the office I pay for, using electricity and phones and computers that I bought.

There is no executive privilege in an open government.

And I want the memos and notes from the damn energy meetings too!

2. Cheney thought about being transparent.
But he opted for invisible instead.

11. The very fact that these offenses are debated
in the first place place just prove our leadership is incompetent and disrespectful of the tax payer, we are truly "screwn".

3. In a true democracy, a public servant's official duties garner no privacy.
In public office, you work for the people. They are your employer, and if your employer wants to see your paperwork, then you better damn well show your employer your fucking paperwork.

8. As I recall, the doctrine of Executive Privledge
was struck down by the Supremes 9-0 back in the days of Nixon.

9. The VP IS NOT ENTITLED TO EXECUTIVE PRIVILEGE
as far as I know..

Remember when they tried to indict Al Gore for holding a Fundraiser with the Tibetan Priests
at the White House accusing him of using the WH telephones for Clinton fundraisers?

14. Damn, the tax payers paid for the paper on which to make the list.
The tax payers are footing Cheney's salary and Cheney's staff salaries. We're paying the rent on the office. Trying to block the court ruling says one thing loud and clear: Cheney's got something to hide. We, the employers, want to know what it is.

16. Isn't "his" house really "our" house?
Or was that whole "for the people, by the people" and "the government derives it's just power from the consent or the governed" stuff just more talking point crap?

It's time these pricks, every last one of them on both sides of the aisle, were given a lesson in just who the hell they work for. I'd like to know who is visiting my Vice President.
