Australia won't embed troops with Iraqis: Downer

Foreign Minister Alexander Downer says there are no plans for Australian soldiers to be embedded with Iraqi security forces.

Mr Downer and Defence Minister Brendan Nelson are in the United States for talks with the Bush administration on a range of issues, including the war in Iraq.

"We've got a small number of troops in Iraq and ... we have no plans to embed troops in combat units," he said.

Mr Downer also says Australia has no intention of sending any more troops to Iraq.

dangerous future.

Outnumbered 30 or 40 to 1 and all it takes is one soldier
or policeman who thinks that killing or kidnapping an
"infidel" outsider will get him closer to God and you have
problems.
