WSJ Editor on Bush's Iraq Strategy: 'I Don't Think He Has To Adjust'
Think Progress 12/03/06

This morning on Fox News Sunday, Wall Street Journal editor Paul Gigot brushed
aside notions that the deteriorating situation in Iraq warranted a change in strategy
from President Bush. Gigot said, "I don't think he has to adjust" or "announce some
new grand strategy."

The key to success in Iraq, according to Gigot, is for the President to show "resolve"
and wrap "his arms around (Iraqi Prime Minister) Maliki."

Gigot, one of the primary media cheerleaders for the war in Iraq, finds himself
increasingly isolated. Even outgoing Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld
acknowledged in a recent memo that "it is time for a major adjustment.

Of course Gidgit's priorities are certain to be more business leaning, and any actual
concern regarding the slaughter in Iraq is probably besides the point for him. And
with so many of the people he dines with making huge profits off of all this misery,
why would he want anything to change?

2. we either lose or we be honest
we need clear objectives and overwhelming force. All Bush needs to do is admit that it won't be cheap or easy; it will cost a lot of tax dollars, lives, and time.

Hope is still there - all w. needs to do is listen to poppy and convince the USA that taxes should be raised to pay for the war.:eyes:

3. The WSJ loses so much credibility
because of the nutjobs they have on their editorial board. I never read the paper but I hear that their market information is first rate. But this is clouded by the idiots they have editorializing for them, and I've read enough of them to know that I wouldn't touch the WSJ with a ten foot pole even if I was a stockbroker.

4. But this is preaching to the choir for most of Wall Street...
where they would sell their mother and rape their father to make a buck.

14. The Financial Times is Much Better than the Wall Street Urinal
The WSJ often lets its love affair with the Republicans and PNAC get in the way of honest financial reporting.
They are also way too cozy with the corporations whose financial information they report.

The Financial Times is much more reliable.

confess all his crimes and war crimes, and wrap his arms around his own chest to make it easier for a law officer to put a pair of handcuffs around his guilty wrists.

That would be one of the first right things to do.

in Miami-Dade County. Called it a "bourgeois riot." So that is all you need to know about the good judgement of Mr. Gigot.

18. wrap "his arms around (Iraqi Prime Minister) Maliki." - oh, brother
End is near in Babylon
BY ERIC S. MARGOLIS
3 December 2006

--snip--
But Iraq’s prime minister, Nuri Al Maliki, governs only over Baghdad’s US-protected Green Zone. The US controls what passes for Iraq’s police and armed forces. Maliki has no army of his own; his Shia supporters are divided and feuding. How can Bush expect a powerless prime minister to do what the mighty US cannot?
