Central Park Five Sue NYC $50 Million Each For False Arrest

The five young men who served half their lives behind bars each filed a $50 million lawsuit against New York City for false arrest in the publicity-saturated Central Park jogger rape and assault case of 14 years ago.

The convictions were based largely on videotaped "confessions" the defense attorneys believe were coerced, because much of what the youths said about the rape was incorrect, including where and how it took place.

The victim of the beating, a White woman, was beaten so severely she went into a coma for a time and suffered amnesia. Those arrested were all African American or Latino.
