Seven members of Shelley Sekula-Gibbs' staff quit
(11/15/06 - KTRK/HOUSTON) - She's only been on the job for a couple of days and already seven staff members of US Representative Shelley Sekula-Gibbs have quit.

It's not unusual that staff will quit or be fired any time there is a change a new congressperson in office. But it is unusual that so many would resign at the same time.

Eyewitness News has learned five staffers quit from the Washington, DC office of Sekula-Gibbs and two from her office in Stafford.

Sekula-Gibbs was just sworn in Monday as interim successor to Congressman Tom DeLay in District 22. On Tuesday seven staffers who worked for DeLay resigned.

5. What a lousy job. She's going to keep the seat warm for a couple
of months until Nick Lampson (D-CD22-TX) takes over ? Heck Lampson should be in there already fumigating the place of all the former exterminators crud.

12. No, she's fresh, but she doesn't get to go through orientation. That's for the next class, not this
one. I'm sure if she wanted to sit through some of the stuff they'd let her, but it's a waste of time. All she's doing is watching the inbox until January.

13. For All Those Not Familiar or Who Forgot
A SUMMARY:

Tom BugBoy DeLay announces after the Texas primaries he is resigning, this is in March.
June BugBoy resigns from congress. Governor Perry decides not to have a special election. Instead they (the TX GOP) think they will try to hand select their candidate. This goes to court and the court over rules their plans. They appeal, again the court over rules their plan, this was around August. In September realizing they don't have many options available to them decide to have Gov. Goodhair Perry call for a special election to coincide with the November election, to confuse the voters in the district. There was a few cat fights within the GOP for who would get to be the write in candidate.

Nick Lampson chose not to play into their hands. Therefore, Shelley Sekula-Gibbs won the special write in election and will get to serve for a whopping 2 months. At that time Nick Lampson will take back District 22 for the state of Texas.

15. One of her volunteers said "some voters are not that smart"
Nice way to trash your constituents. Face it, idiots, they were plenty smart..they just didn't want your asses in Washington.

Ruby Cubley, a campaign volunteer and a patient, averred that if the doctor hadn't been forced to run as a write-in, she would have beaten the Democrat.

There were glitches. I'm sorry to say, some voters are not that smart," Ms. Cubley said. "I'm disappointed. ... But it's exciting, because we hope to re-elect her when Nick Lampson finishes

Dr Sekula-Gibbs was a bit more coy.

It's not the time to campaign right now. We have such a short window," she said. When would the time come? "After I'm finished with the job that I was given".
