Davis gains on Crist in governor's race in Florida
Davis gains on Crist in governor’s race

BY BILL COTTERELL AND AARON DESLATTE
FLORIDA CAPITAL BUREAU

November 2, 2006

TAMPA — Encouraged by a poll showing him gaining in the race for governor, Democrat Jim Davis voted for himself Thursday in an early-voting appearance while his Republican nominee Attorney General Charlie Crist pointed at his continuing lead to rally supporters.

The poll showed Crist leading Davis 50 percent to 43 percent as the campaign heads into its hectic final weekend.

Davis said the Mason-Dixon numbers showed his campaign is heading in the right direction. He had been down by 15 percent in September and trailed Crist by 11 points early last month in the Mason-Dixon poll.

"I am gaining in every poll," said Davis.

Brad Coker, Florida director of the poll, said President Bush's unpopularity may be hurting Crist some — but that Gov. Jeb Bush's overall 64 percent approval rating more than offset any national drag on the ticket. Crist has wedded his campaign to the governor's eight-year record — so much so that Davis accuses him, at every stop, of wanting to "stay the course," using the now-abandoned White House term for continuing current policies.

"Any time it's single-digit, it's not over, but I think Crist has the inside track," said Coker. "He (Davis) is closing it but is there enough on the table to close it all the way?"

3. He's cut Crist's lead from 15 to 7 since September, against Crist's $18.8 Million.
Go, Jim!

9. I have my absentee ballot filled out & will hand-deliver on 11/7
Unfortunately it's a diebold opt-scan ballot. Which goes into those diebold machines with the programmable flash-memory cards. * wil be stopping here o a last-minute campaign stump for Crist. I need to find out where the "free speech zone" is so I can tell bush go cheney himself.

10. I had the choice of a touch screen (early voting) or a scanner. (election day.)
I shall be voting Tuesday.

Crist is not as popular here as elsewhere. I hope we go Davis.

4. Since FL elections are rigged, the outcome should be obvious even now.
The Republican will win. I'm sorry to all the Davis workers out there. But, don't be depressed. Instead, rise up against this terrible abomination of our Democracy starting on Election Day. Don't let a rigged outcome stunt your active pursuit of honest representation.

15. If Crist was straight his personal life would be front page news.
Edited on Fri Nov-03-06 01:35 PM by seasat
If the situation was reversed and Jim was single and having a long time fling with say, a female staffer from Ted Kennedy's campaign who is a convicted embezzler (LINK) and if he had another woman come out and say he had a brief fling and she was 30 younger than him and expected a job when he became governor, then the media would be all over it (LINK).

Jim Davis won't touch it because he doesn't believe in going after someone based on their personal life. I sometimes wish he wasn't quite such a good guy. Max Linn is screaming about Charlie to anyone that will listen. Unfortunately, we have some reverse political correctness when it comes to someone's personal life and they're homosexual. Heck, I was reluctant in posting this information in a previous post but since I've been barraged daily with Charlie's special interest funded attack ads and Charlie's hypocrisy in opposing gay marriage or adoption, I have no reservations in pointing out these stories about Charlie's personal life.

Chameleon Charlie doesn't have the same moral streak. He got a Jebbie appointed election superintendent to claim that Jim didn't vote in the 2000 election and Charlie is using this lie as a campaign attack. The appointed supervisor is has been under criticism for not doing his job (LINK. No potential conflict of interest there.:eyes:

14. forgive this stupid question but
why isn't Jebbie running? Do they have a governor's term limit? If not this makes me sick to have him run in 2008.

16. Yes, fortunately Jebbie is term limited.
Florida Governors are only allowed two terms.
