Weirton Steel Holds Layoff Meetings

WEIRTON, WV -- As NEWS 9 was first to report last Friday, 85 employees of Weirton Steel were laid off after President Bush lifted the steel import tariffs. The company is holding benefit meetings Monday at 10:00 AM and 1:30 PM at the auditorium of the company's General Offices on Three Springs Drive.

1. Was it only because of the lifting of the tariffs?
Because if it was, these people should vote the Dem. candidate into office and tell bush to kiss their collective asses. Bad idea by bush to lift the tariffs. Thanks georgie boy. more unemployment is just what already impoverished regions need.

2. I believe it was. Other countries are dumping steel here and he said
he would impose tariffs because of it. Now that they
threatened to sanction the US, he pulled them and our
steel industry is circling the rim of the extinction
toilet as we speak.

3. Dontcha think...
...this is a little premature to can these people so fast? This smacks of opportunism by management, without even waiting for a "decent interval" to claim that the lifted tariffs hurt their bottom line.
