McCain to Kerry: Apologize to Troops
http://www.abcnews.go.com/GMA/story?id=2620520&page=1

Troops Are In Iraq Because They Love Country, Senator Says

Nov. 1, 2006 — Sen. John McCain appeared on "Good Morning America" today and refused to back down from his call for Sen. John Kerry to apologize for remarks he made about the Iraq war.

Kerry, campaigning for Democrats in California on Monday, told a group of students: "You know education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. And if you don't, you get stuck in Iraq."

Kerry says that he misspoke, and that his comment was a botched joke aimed at President Bush, not at soldiers.

McCain told "GMA" today that it didn't seem like a joke.

"I've read and watched the statement over and over again," McCain said to anchor Diane Sawyer. "I'm not sure how you can construe it that way."

2. And this guy would like us to believe that
he is smart enough to be president. Any respect I ever had for McCain the war hero has been erased by McCain the political hack.

3. Unlike many here, I think this story has legs. Which is a bad thing with less
then a week to go.

17. Heard on ABC News last night
Gibson: "Does anyone in the White House really believe Kerry was insulting the troops?"

Stephanopolous: "(something-something lame), but do they really want to be talking about Iraq now?"

First, I loved Gibson's inflection on really. Second, even lame old Stephanolopous didn't spin it in the WH direction.

4. "Troops Are In Iraq Because They Love Country"... They love Iraq?
Edited on Wed Nov-01-06 11:05 AM by Prag
That statement doesn't make any sense.

I was under the impression the Troops loved the United States...

Maybe McCain has misspoken?

I DEMAND AN APOLOGY!

friendship, honesty, integrity, etc. Where and why did McCain lose his principles?

8. Don't do it John, you'd only be falling into the trap
This is a major cojones test for him, to see if he has the balls to stick it out.

If he apologizes he only opens himself up to more criticism and the inevitable charges that his apology was "inadequate" or "didn't go far enough".

Every time Karl Rove said something offensive and Democrats demanded an apology he blew them off, and the story went away in a day or two.

10. Well McCain needs to read the preceeding sentences then. Then
Edited on Wed Nov-01-06 11:05 AM by yellowcanine
he will see how it can be construed that way. And he is a liar if he says otherwise. It is quite clear Kerry was talking about Bush all along. Bush is stuck in Iraq beccause he is ignorant of history. That is clearly what Kerry said if one takes the time to read the statement in the context in which it was made.

22. Don't have the link but find the Chris Matthew's video - he paraphrases it and
puts Kerry's remark into its context. Gives it a whole different meaning than what the WH and the media are bandying about.

13. McCain is an ass. What would you
expect from a guy who would allow himself to be photographed hugging Bush after Bush mercilessly smeared him and insulted his family back in 2000.

He ought to be ashamed of himself.

That said, Kerry's big mistake yesterday was that he didn't simply take the stage, retell the joke using Bush's name, and declare the matter closed. His impassioned defense of himself was great, but no one was listening.

18. Ridiculous
When will McCain demand an apology from Bush and other Republicans for the slander he and his family endured a few years ago -- when he was accused of having an illegitimate black daughter?

Oh yes I forgot: IOKIYAR

Screw McCain.

24. Fuck mccain.
He got caught and spent the war in a prison because he couldn't fly straight.

FUCK HIM.

Kerry was FIGHTING the whole time.

That doesn't make him a hero at all to me - in fact, his statements prove he is suffering from some sort of mental illness - who new bush* was correct when he said that.

Just another repuke hack.

Repuke slime.

He gets NO pass from me...
