Muslim-American voters turn backs on Bush : survey
WASHINGTON (AFP) - US Muslim voters, a majority of whom fear the "war on terror" is a war on Islam, have ditched President George W. Bush, and now lean towards rival Democrats, a poll showed.

The community also overwhelmingly doubts the Iraq war was worthwhile and opposes the use of force to spread democracy, according to the survey published two weeks before crucial congressional elections.

"It shows the Muslim community votes should not be taken for granted," said Nihad Awad, Executive Director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), which sponsored the poll.

Forty-two percent of the snapshot of 1,000 voters among a database of 400,000 American Muslims identified themselves as Democrats and 17 percent were Republicans. Some 28 percent were non-affiliated.

1. Majority Muslim vote switched to Dems in 2004.
This article seemed to leave that out.

2. I just had a meeting with a Muslim friend and a Republican client
My Egyptian friend is an engineer I work with. He is very outspoken and when my client asked him what Egypt was like, he said that Egyptians love Americans. They just hate George Bush. To my astonishment, my Republican client repsonded that he too hates Bush. The chimp is really bringing us together.

4. Republicans blew it with Muslims
Muslims are very conservative on the social issues, arguably even more than the Southern Baptists, that would have made them ripe for the picking for the GOP. By all accounts they preferred Bush in 2000. Now they seem to be permanently moving to the Democrats, and they are growing rather briskly in this country.

Republican spin #1: "See? he really is a 'uniter, not a divider'!"

Republican spin #2: "See? The Democratic party really does support terrorists!"

Both of which I've heard before on this subject.

7. A lot of Muslims went Bush in 2000
They were afraid of the Middle eastern policies of someone with Lieberman's israel ties; that is now gone, and I expect Muslims in conneticut could help an upset for lamont.
