Hastert urges quick action on Foley

By LARRY MARGASAK, Associated Press Writer 19 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - House Speaker
Dennis Hastert testified in private before ethics investigators Tuesday and then said they should work quickly to find out who knew about Rep. Mark Foley (news, bio, voting record)'s come-ons to congressional pages and what was done about it.

Hastert spoke briefly after his closed-door testimony to the House ethics committee that is trying to pin down when he and his staff learned about Foley's actions.

"I answered all the questions they asked to the best of my ability," Hastert said after testifying for almost three hours. "I also said that they need to move quickly to get to the bottom of this issue including who knew about the sexually explicit messages and when they knew about it."

Hastert has denied any Republican knew of the messages from Foley to former pages. His office has described only how Republicans handled an incident last fall involving "over friendly" e-mails to a former page from Louisiana.

4. Foley is already history; what we need NOW is action on HASTERT!
Clearly, he covered up some pretty stomach-turning
stuff in this Foley case. But even if he WAS telling
the truth today (he wasn't), doesn't that just raise
the question:
"If Hastert's memory is really as pathetically poor
as he's claiming these days, isn't that proof enough
that he's unfit for high office?
"

7. Then all he needs is a time machine...
...with which to go back in time a few months or years to kick himself in the ass.

It's far too late for quick action.

8. NOW he wants quick action?
I mean, it's just been what, five or ten years that Foley's taste for teen-agers has been known in the Capitol? And now Hastert wants it all wrapped up nice and neat. How about ordering your staff to come clean, publicly, about what they knew, when they knew it, and who they told about Foley? Or don't you have any more control over your staff than you do over your caucus, Mr. Speaker?

9. Yes, let's do take care of the Foley scandal as quickly as possible...
...so we can ask you about those suitcases of cash-for-heroin that you've been receiving.
Now...you were saying about Mark Foley?
