Oct. 23, 2006 — WASHINGTON (AP) - His body visibly wracked by tremors, actor Michael J. Fox speaks out for Missouri Democratic Senate candidate Claire McCaskill in a television ad that promotes her support for embryonic stem cell research.

"As you might know I care deeply about stem cell research," says 45-year-old actor, who has struggled with Parkinson's disease for more than a decade. "In Missouri you can elect Claire McCaskill, who shares my hope for cures."

The spot was the subject of widespread discussion on Monday after conservative radio commentator Rush Limbaugh claimed Fox was "either off his medication or acting" during the ad.

"I think this is exploitative in a way that's unbecoming either Claire McCaskill or Michael J. Fox," Limbaugh said on his syndicated show.

McCaskill spokeswoman Adrianne Marsh said Fox looked the same as he did for a McCaskill fundraiser in St. Louis last month that raised $200,000 for the campaign. "It's unfortunate that anyone would attack someone who's trying to speak out for lifesaving cures," Marsh said.

I heard this yesterday (Philadelphia doesn't get AirAmerica so I sometimes listen in on RL on 1210AM) but didn't see MJ Fox's add. Sounds to me like Michael J fox was exhibiting after dose dyskinesias. I have seen him showing dyskinesias at other times, usually on one side. I believe that he had surgery on one side also. As PD degeneration progresses over time (years) the ability to control symptoms with sinemet wanes. Patients may go from frozen to dyskinesias(uncontrolled movements) shortly after taking sinemet. Essentially the drug is becoming less useful. Unfortunately, at that point there are not many treatments that will really help without causing very troubling side-effects. What can I say other than Rush Limbaugh continues to prove that he is a pus-filled cyst of a human being
