'Taliban plans to attack Europe'

London - Afghan militants are planning to launch deadly attacks on civilians in Europe in revenge for the 2001 invasion by United States-led forces, a Taliban commander said on Sky News television on Monday.

Mullah Mohammed Amin said resurgent militants had built up stockpiles of weapons and were bent on vengeance against "the foreign invaders".

The Taliban, overthrown by the invasion, now wanted to export terror to the West, he said.

"It's acceptable to kill ordinary people in Europe because these are the people who have voted in the government," he said.

12. Right. Just like Bush blew the world's support and solidarity after 9/11,
the Taliban may be able to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, if they successfully attack Europe. While the Taliban does not have that much support in the West, but public opinion in Europe does not seem to fully support NATO's role in Afghanistan. The Taliban can probably better just wait NATO out, unless they are having more success there than is apparent.

3. Sounds very much like the statement put out by Bin Laden.
Just prior to the 9/11 attacks he said Western (American) civilian casualties were acceptable because of the government voted into power by said civilians...:wtf:

4. So, what's everyone's guess?
What do folks think will happen in the even of such an attack on European soil?

Will there be massive anti-Arab/Muslim backlash throughout Europe, resulting in Draconian new laws, a sweeping shift to the Right and renewed support for US' "War on Terror" efforts?

Or will the blame be directed at the US and its citizens?

5. it didn't happen before, so why should it happen now ?
Europe has been hit several times before : Paris (pre 9/11), Madrid, London...

it depends a bit of the scale, but Europe will probably shrug it off. Been there, done that...

Besides, they have to succeed first. So far all major plots have been foiled, excepts for the ones above.

7. Whatever happened to the war in Afghanistan
I guess voters in the US haven't noticed that the Taliban is back (it never really went) and the opium trade has increased 60%

11. Yup...
Unfortunately it NOW becomes LBN propaganda courtesy of the usual suspects...

Some taliban guy interviewed by Sky News being reported by a South African TV station -- and then posted on LBN with the headline 'taliban plans to attack Europe'...

The 'credibility arc' leaves a lot be desired when credible news sources are reporting a simple newswire story:

Afghan militants 'plan UK attacks'
Guardian .

As the parrot squawks, "Arabs are scary! Arabs are scary! (qwack) Stay the Course! Stay the Course! (qwack)

9. So, Europe has to lose Habeas Corpus and privacy rights, too.
And according to homeland security, we and all of europe will have to request permission to leave and return to our contries.

Then, we can employ indians to monitor the email and phone conversations of all americans and europeans.

Gee- It took Hitler alot longer to take over Europe, and he never got the US.

Nice work, those neocons.

Taliban leader warns of fierce fighting to come
Reuters

October 23, 2006

KABUL (Reuters) - Fugitive Taliban leader Mullah Mohammad Omar has used the holiest Muslim holiday of the year to warn that his men will intensify their fighting in Afghanistan to "surprising" levels to drive out foreign forces.

In a lengthy message to Afghans for Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the fasting month of Ramadan, Omar also urged NATO to withdraw its almost 20,000 troops and stop sacrificing soldiers for the United States, adding the nation stood with him.
