Dean Campaigns for Lamont in Conn.
(AP) Democratic chairman Howard Dean praised Ned Lamont on Friday as the challenger dealt with a dose of bad news _ a double-digit deficit in the latest poll.

"No one was going to stand up over the Iraq policy until Ned stood up and then the people stood up because Ned was a great leader," Dean said at a rally for Lamont and other Democratic candidates. "We need Ned Lamont."......

"Your state has done something extraordinary," Dean said. "Your state had a courageous person step up when nobody thought he could win and take on folks who supported the Bush policy."

Dean and Lieberman were testy rivals in 2004, and the Democratic National Committee chairman's appearance for Lamont was widely expected. The Lamont campaign also unveiled a television ad Friday featuring popular Connecticut Sen. Christopher Dodd telling Lamont that he admires his decision to run.

1. Good move. I suspect Dean's got some CT admirers who are familiar
with his Governorship in VT, which may include some CT Independents as well as Dems. Looks like an uphill effort, and I appreciate Dean's totally appropriate appearance on behalf of the Democratic Party's candidate.

3. Really! I hope he stays around for
a while and not just a one shot deal. I realize Dean has 49 other states but this one is so IMPORTANT! :patriot: :patriot:

4. Sadly, I think that Lamont is toast given today's Quinnipiac poll

5. Thanks for the negative attitude.
The Q-pac poll sadly missed the 2nd debate (where Lieberman clearly flopped), the Courant's anti-Lieberman articles, Joe's call for an invasion of Iran, and Dean and Dodd's support for Ned.

But, it's okay! 1 poll showing a 17-point lead said Ned will lose, so it must be true!

With friends like these...

7. I am from CT but think Dem money can be better invested elsewhere
Edited on Fri Oct-20-06 07:52 PM by David Dunham
Lieberman has CT pretty much wrapped up. Lamont needed to knock Lieberman out in August following the primary but instead went on vacation in Maine and ran no effective TV ads

9. While Lamont hasn't been the best campaigner...
Recent developments suggest that Lieberman may not win this one in a walk.

-The debates (particularly #2) where Schlesinger's star rose, Lamont gradually got better and Lieberman was so obnoxious the moderator cut his microphone

-Chris Dodd and Howard Dean campaigning with Lamont

-Lieberman's inability to say which party he wants to win Congress is being plastered all over the Courant's front page

-Lieberman now supports John Bolton

-Lieberman called for an invasion of Iran

Yes, vacations when you're campaigning is a bad idea (remember Dukakis doing clerical work during '88?), but Lamont's not done yet.

17. Let's remember that Bush wants to STAY THE COURSE and so does JOE
Edited on Sat Oct-21-06 09:11 AM by ihelpu2see
Change is needed, we should not lose focus. Joe has received over 5 Million dollars from Cheney/Rove/Bush and even more $$ from big business PACs. Therefor JOE can NOT be an agent of CHANGE!

Mr. Lamont represents the ideas of the future. Health-care for all and better public education. Joe casts his lot with the, lets keep doing what has gotten 2700+ brave soldiers killed crowd!!!

Vote for Ned in Nov. 7th 2006 a vote for Change and Hope.

Sincerely,

Dr. Fred in CT

10. I think that's a rather cheap shot. The vacation didn't make or break
anything. It is just that for many voters, being against the Iraq war was just not the deal breaking issue. Joe has been seen by independents and some so called "liberal" Republicans as "bipartisan" and these folks just wish and wish that bipartisanship is a goal they can realize with JOe. They are in fairyland. So they are all Tinkerbell with Joe and can't stand the reality that Ned presents.

Ned is Ned. He can't be as slick as Joe is, with his years of training on "Meet the Press" and "Face the Nation." Joe used to live in my neighborhood. I'd see him occasionally out jogging or on his way to shull on Saturday with Hadassah and their little girl. Then he wasn't there any more. Then he sold his house. Then Hadassah got a job in DC working for a lobbying firm. Then they had to get a CT address for him to run in CT and they rented a condo downtown, far away from their WEstville neighborhood and not within walking distance of their synagogue.

Please. Don't tell me what NEd didn't do. I can tell you what Joe didn't do. It ain't that.

6. This poll wasn't taken after Schlesinger got serious
The Ned-Schlesinger trouncing of Joe in that debate I think will shift more support to the two of them.

15. How could Dean possibly help Lamont win ONE more vote?
Does anyone think that there is one CT Dean supporter that doesn't back Lamont?

What an exercise in futility, and unfortunately a perfect example why Lamont is in the position he's in.

16. It can help in a couple of ways
His appearance can inspire some dems to canvass or help GOTV. Beyond that, I actually do believe that too too many voters are very "low information" voters who still recognize Lieberman as a Democrat who holds their position on issues when that isn't really true. Any official dem buzz can be helpful by rattling that misconception, imo.

18. Have you seen this CJ interview of Dean?
While driving Howard Dean around in Connecticut, citizen journalist Aldon Haynes (with his his family's help) interviewed Howard Dean. You will see some Ned support signs in the background.

Also, they discuss how to energize citizens to vote and why they should vote. Quick-time reader required to see this, and possible dial-up warning as it may be a little slow to load.

19. The biggest impact issue in this race:
HoJo's Pie Hole!

Ned didn't really *win* the primary, HoJo lost it: since then, HoJo has been in D.C. and not in front of locals in CT (part of the problem with LIEberman, to begin with).

Ned needs Joe in front of cameras, in un-staged events - Joe will always come off as sniveling (like the second debate).

More TV commercials are going to have much impact, nor will heavy hitters (though the heavies couldn't hurt!)... right now we need Joe on camera, every night on channels 3, 4 and 8, turning off voters like lightbulbs.

Tut-tut
