Kerry tells N.H. Dems: GOP lied about Foley scandal, Iraq
MANCHESTER, N.H. --Sen. John Kerry likened the Congressional page scandal to the war in Iraq, saying Republicans have lied about both.

"They tell us we're making progress in Iraq and that there is no civil war. That is a lie," Kerry said Friday in remarks prepared for delivery at the New Hampshire Democratic Party's annual fall fundraising dinner. "There is a civil war and it is costing American and Iraqi lives every single day and we must change course in Iraq."

Republicans also are lying when they claim the scandal surrounding former Rep. Mark Foley is a Democratic plot to win the midterm elections, said Kerry.

Foley, R-Fla., resigned Sept. 29 after being confronted with sexually explicit computer messages he sent to teenage male pages. For several days afterward, House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., blamed Democrats for the scandal but later changed course and took responsibility for the matter.

2. Yep, at a press conference
Hastert took responsibility but, as Olbermann said, not the blame.

7. Kerry drops by, cries 'a lie, a lie' (accuses GOP of major mendacity)

Kerry drops by, cries 'a lie, a lie'
Senator accuses GOP of major mendacity

Sen. John Kerry accused Republicans of lying about everything from the Congressional page scandal to the war in Iraq, and the handling of North Korea.

"A lie, a lie, a lie, a lie. What we have in Washington is a house of lies, and in November, we need to clean house," Kerry told about 650 people yesterday at the New Hampshire Democratic Party's annual fall fundraising dinner.

"They tell us we're making progress in Iraq and that there is no civil war. That is a lie," Kerry said. "It's immoral to lie about progress in that war in order to get through a news cycle or an election cycle."

Republicans also are lying when they claim the scandal surrounding former Rep. Mark Foley is a Democratic plot to win the midterm elections, said Kerry.

10. Wow! He finally used "The L Word!"
I wanted to strangle him during the debates, when he'd say, "The President {sic} is not being straight with the American people..."

No, Mr. Kerry...

Say, "Mister Bush is LYING!"

11. No kidding! It's LONG past time.
They've been LYING from the very beginning. Never understood why the timidity toward calling it what it was: a frickin' LIE. That's the republi-CONS' Gross National Product. CONSTANT LYING. And that's gross, indeed.

12. At least he is not saying "I think he is lying"
It used to bug me to no end in 2004 when he would say "I think" instead of just stating a fact. As in "I think the country is going in the wrong direction" instead of saying The Country IS Going in the Wrong Direction

from day 1 in the '04 primaries on to election day. He didn't do it then, when it counted for me. Too late now. That and his current defense against the Swiftbots. Sorry, John, as the Middle Ages people used to say, Opportunity is a bald woman with a FORELOCK. "You must grab Opportunity by the FORELOCK."

20. Whenever there is a positive post about Senator Kerry, there is always
one bearer of sour grapes who just has to show with the same old "sorry John" line that a lot of us are frankly tired of hearing.

First off, who are you that you have the right to call Senator Kerry by his first name? :eyes: The only people I hear doing that are either close friends of the senator's or Freepers. Are you a friend of the senator?

Besides that, the topic of this thread deals with the here and now (not with 2004) and the issue at hand is the reclaiming of our CONGRESS. I think you should be saying, "THANK YOU, SENATOR KERRY. THANK YOU FOR FIGHTING FOR ALL OUR DEMS RUNNING IN THE MIDTERMS."

I live in NH where we are facing two very tight Congressional races against incumbent Republicans. Senator Kerry draws huge crowds here and nobody has helped NH candidates more than he has. I'm very grateful for that help and I'm not going to say, "Sorry SENATOR, you can't campaign here because you didn't win in 2004."

And speaking of NH, we know quality when we see it up here. We don't throw out our best candidates because they weren't successful the first time round. Paul Hodes ran for Congress in '04 and didn't make it, but he came close to unseating Rep. Charlie Bass. This time, Hodes is running again with the support of nearly every Dem in the state. His won the primary virtually unopposed and he's positioned to win this time. Think about that. Nobody up here was stupid enough to tell Paul Hodes he had his chance and not to run again. The experience he gained from his previous campaign makes him a better candidate this time.
