Even if this isn't true- Jesus, this guy is like a biblical plague; the election can't come soon enough for me.

2. Oh my God
Bring 'em home. Do not -- repeat -- do not pay any attention to our Chimp-in-Chief* who invited our enemies to "Bring 'em on".

Please, bring 'em home.

3. Has this been verified?
Not to cast aspersions on the Pakistani press, but has there been any confirmation by Reuters, BBC or othere presumably more objective media outlets?

4. 2 Days ago and no US coverage?
This page has a quote from the US base about some wounded but no source for the dead. Is anyone familiar with the reliability of dailytimes? (not to say US media is more reliable but you'd think someone else would have such a big story)

6. Here's an AP story that mentions Spinboldak
There's nothing in here about U.S. casualties, though, and this article refers to Sunday's conflict, not Friday's.

http://www.boston.com/dailynews/202/world/U_S_soldiers_fired_on_as_they_:.shtml

I have to treat this news story with a grain of salt. I can't imagine the AP hasn't picked up on a story this big from Friday if it is indeed accurate.

7. There is another story related to this
http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp?page=story_21-7-2003_pg1_3

And it appears to be a follow-up with US forces pursuing the attackers..

I do wonder if its true though..

8. on the one hand,
Edited on Mon Jul-21-03 09:02 AM by Aidoneus
it is true that Afghan resistance movements, including Taliban, have been stepping up their campaign against the foreign occupation forces and the pro-Karzai collaborators since the spring thaw. On the other hand, certain sections of the Pakistani press has been pumping out stories like these on a very regular basis without outside corroboration of the story at a later point. To not just blanketly trash them, I read some of them regularly, and the Pakistani papers are fine enough on many subjects:--this is not one of them.

While I would agree with the notion that we're not being told the truth about the war casualties, I have a sneaking suspicion that it's probably also not true that dozens a week are being killed and are all being meticulously covered up. There's not a whole lot of depths that the criminal gangs that rule Washington DC won't sink to in the practice of deception, but successfully concealing so many deaths would be even out of their league.

14. If we could trust the U.S. media
we wouldn't be wondering "What if" about Pakistani newspaper stories.

9. this has GOT to have the effect of drawing attention to
what is REALLY going on in Afghanistan--a place that I believe the general public has written off and forgotten about, figuring it to be "mission accomplished."

These two articles should be required reading for all Americans--typical, to find out anything you have to read the foreign press:

http://english.pravda.ru/mailbox/22/98/387/10403_Bush.html">Bush and Lies and Drugs and Videos: When aggression walks where diplomacy belongs,Pravda, July 4, 2003 (with some very strange and interesting reader comments at the end)

http://observer.guardian.co.uk/review/story/0,6903,962905,00.html">On the Roads of Ruin, Peter Oborne, Guardian Unlimited, May 25, 2003--". . . in a remarkable journey, meeting militia leaders and the heavily guarded President, Peter Oborne found a nation left to fend for itself - and Taliban thugs undeterred . . ."

13. We're living in a place where not many people much about anything but
themselves or they trust NBC, CNN, ABC, FOX... are telling them the truth. The only way we can take on the Repukes is directly (advertising) giving them forums like the DU to read the truth.

12. Whether it's true or not, it might be instructive
to look at how the Soviets dealt with their casualty numbers--they denied them...for years...as I think was the cas in Vietnam as well.

No way of knowing I guess, at this point, but I believe the situation in Afghanistan is probably a lot worse than we're being told.
