Senator Readies Congressional Reversal Of FCC Rules
North Dakota Democrat Byron Dorgan says that as soon as the FCC either formally notifies Congress about its new ownership rules or publishes them in the Federal Register — either of which can trigger the action — he'll invoke the seldom-used "Resolution of Disapproval," which gives Congress the power to veto Executive Branch rules. Dorgan says he may introduce the resolution as early as Wednesday, by when he expects one of the two triggering events will have occurred.

1. Bring it on!
Good on ya, Byron! Last thing we need is even more corporate consolidation of our media. Just imagine if Clear Channel were to buy up all the C&W stations in Texas. No more Dixie Chicks, no more Robert Earl Keen, Jr., no more local talent...scary.

And this is coming from someone who enjoys listening to speedcore.

2. Does the 'Resolution of Disapproval' apply to Patriot Act &
.... and the Iraq War Resolution ?

We need to get a reliable Dem group to have that sucka' enacted every time Shrub tries to put something stupid past us (which is daily, of course...)

3. No. It applies to Executive Branch Rules
You cite an Act and a resolution passed by Congress, not an Executive Branch Rule.

4. Besides...
...most Dems supported those abominations, to their undying shame. Gonna be pretty tough to get them to say anything against them now...

:hi: Hi, Lisa!

6. This is in reference to the recent FCC rules changes.
The ones Powell pushed through over strong bipartisan dissent. I'm unaware of any Dem that supported them.

5. Over 500,000 emails & post cards were sent to the FCC
opposing the relaxation of media ownership rules.

This info. is from a letter received from Rep. Carolyn Maloney, 14th District.
