Families of Iraq troops want Kean to quit Senate race
http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/15661765.htm

A group of anti-war activists with relatives serving in Iraq called on Tom Kean Jr. to quit the U.S. Senate race Monday, saying the Republican lacks a strategy for withdrawing troops or ensuring soldiers get needed aid once they return.

Kean's position on the war and his refusal to answer questions about whether he'd enlist or allow his children to serve should disqualify him from representing New Jersey in Washington, says the group, Military Families Speak Out.

In a two-page letter to Kean dated Monday, four members of the group tell the Republican state senator, "You should feel ashamed that you refused to answer military families and the people of New Jersey. We urge you to drop out of this campaign for Senate because you have disgraced yourself."

A spokeswoman for Kean, Jill Hazelbaker, on Monday said the candidate has already answered the group.

"Kean has been very clear on his differences with the Bush administration over the conduct and handling of this war," Hazelbaker wrote in an e-mail. "He has stated repeatedly the egregious mistakes he feels have been made and he's asked the president to level with the American people and acknowledge those mistakes."

6. Rove is doubtlessly massaging his October Surprise to fit the moment
They'll probably wait until January before they start swiftboating Speaker Pelosi.

5. What an ass
Why in the hell would he not answer the questions about he or his family potentially serving? Why in the hell would he not say that anyone in his family who wishes to serve would have his full support? Why wouldn't he say that he has not served but respects those who have?

8. Kean Jr. is the ultimate Republican trust-fund baby
His name is the only reason this race is so close.

9. Uh ... "he's asked the president" !?!?!
Kean is admitting that troops are dying due to the bushkid's lying, and he's just saying "please?"

Everybody, write letters to the editors of the Newark Star Ledger and the Trenton Times to ask this question.

We can end this race right here and now (yes, really).
