Candidate wounded in Iraq: Bush offers 'shallow slogans'(radio address)
An Illinois congressional candidate who lost both her legs during combat in Iraq said Saturday that President Bush has no real strategy for securing the war-ravaged nation, just political talk designed to appeal to voters.

"Instead of a plan or a strategy, we get shallow slogans like 'Mission Accomplished' and 'Stay the Course,"' former Army Capt. Tammy Duckworth said in the Democrats' weekly radio address. "Those slogans are calculated to win an election. But they won't help us accomplish our mission in Iraq."

Duckworth's address served as a response to the president's weekly radio talk and gave the Democratic Party a chance to showcase one of its strongest candidates as it seeks to regain control of the House in November's elections.

(snip)
"Well, I didn't cut and run, Mr. President. Like so many others, I proudly fought and sacrificed," Duckworth said. "My helicopter was shot down long after you proclaimed 'mission accomplished."'

2. I always wonder if blivet is too stupid not to get the point or if he's
just so morally bankrupt that he doesn't care.

I mean, going AWOL worked out so well for the guy.

10. Don't forget Coulter's smear of Max Cleland
He lost both legs and one arm on a hilltop near Khe Sanh because he was lazy and probably drunk, and so blew himself up with his own grenade. This is what monumental lunatic and shameless coward Ann Coulter had to say about one of our veterans. The point, of course, is that they'll say anything. If you died in a war, they'll say you were negligent. Lose your legs? You are a poor soldier. Shot in the face? If he's too dumb to keep his head down in combat, how can we trust him with a Senate seat. Blown up by an IED? The Democratic candidate is not a careful driver, or poorly anticipates obstacles to success. They'll fucking say ANYTHING. They are shameless. And they are right to be shameless, since nobody in the media ever calls them on it. Hell, the purple heart band-aid nonsense, formulated and fomented by draft dodgers and cowards who never step foot in Vietnam and probably never fired a shot in anger, was thought a great comedy by the media - oh, hah hah, they're so clever. Ann Coulter's incredibly tasteless slurs against triple amputee Max Cleland didn't occasion abhorrence among our media elite. Far from it. They thought it a good point for debate, ho hum. These people are fucking savages, abetted by milquetoasts and self-serving scoundrels, for whom cocktail party invites trump any ethical commitment whatsoever.

12. the band aids were a slap in the face
they are the actions of the "bully" mentality which has overtaken the Republican Party and
changed it from a voice for fiscal conservatives into the Know Nothing Party intent on
extremism. I never remember a Senator who ever kept a noose in his office. What passes
for normal today is shocking and reprehensible. Hear that sound; it is our founding fathers
turning over in their graves at the desecration of our constitution, our congress, our
federal government, our election process and our rule of law.

11. First, they need a defined mission!
Want to settle thing down in Iraq? Turn on the electricity! Fix the water supply!

Probably too late to accomplish either quickly at this point, but, hey it would be a great start.
