No NATO deal to share quick response force costs

PORTOROZ, Slovenia (Reuters) - NATO states have failed to forge an agreement on a scheme to share the cost of the alliance's quick-action response force because some rich members, who already face a bigger bill than poorer allies, do not want to pay more, according to U.S. defense officials.

Because of that impasse, common funding for the 25,000-strong force was not advanced by defense ministers at this week's informal NATO meeting in Slovenia's resort town of Portoroz, despite months of discussion.

"We haven't broken through the logjam on that," said one senior American defense official, speaking on condition of anonymity.
