Given that he was chair of the House Caucus on Missing and Exploited Children, and given that he resigned over his (alleged, to give the benefit of the doubt) solicitation of minor males, your choice of words have a very amusing double meaning. :hi:

If that was deliberate, kudos!

199. omfg. DECLARE HIM AN ENEMY COMBATANT, why don't they?
We can try out the new torture provisions on him that I'm sure he was so very eager to pass.

Slimeball. I bet he called himself a good Christian, too. A part of the so-called moral majority, my ass. I bet the Repuke party is full of these kinds of double-faced hypocrtical rats.

Good riddance, lock him up and throw away the key. I can't wait to hear him blame this all on the liberal media. If he doesn't then I'm sure Rush Limpballs will on his behalf.

I have no tolerance for these kind of sick f*cks.

Chair of the House Caucus on Missing and Exploited Children, too!???? OMFG. I'm speechless. Almost! ;)

So do you think this is the key lines from the abc report?

Maf54: You in your boxers, too?
Teen: Nope, just got home. I had a college interview that went late.
Maf54: Well, strip down and get relaxed.

Nope.

How about this?

Maf54: Do I make you a little horny?
Teen: A little.
Maf54: Cool.

Uh-Uh

Responsible's diary :: ::
The key line from the abc story; the potentially explosive phrase, the phrase that must have someone or ones pissing their cowardly plants, is buried a few paragraphs from the bottom. And it has the potential to blow this story into a neither level of the zoosphere.

117. The Republicans should start their own caucus - Leave No Child Behind.
Or, should it be Hypocrites Anonymous.

Recall that in December 2005, Spokane Mayor James E. West was recalled from office, after news accounts that he offered City Hall jobs and perks to young men he met in a gay Internet chat room.

West, 54, a Republican former state legislator, spent 25 years in public office, and voted against gay-friendly bills.

Is He Gay Or Not?

U.S. Rep. Mark Foley calls press to say he won’t talk about his sexual orientation

By MICK MEENAN

Three weeks after a news article first reported that he is gay, Congressmember Mark Foley (R-FL) continued to refuse to answer the question of whether he is homosexual and vowed to press on with his campaign to become a United States Senator from Florida.

The Senate seat in question is held by three-term Sen. Bob Graham who is currently on the hustings seeking the Democratic presidential nomination.

Late last week, Foley denounced a May 8 article by Bob Norman in New Times, a Palm Beach weekly, in a conference call with reporters from around the state. He said that he was speaking out because he feared a major Florida daily was about to publish the story. Foley blamed Democratic activists for attempting to undermine his run for the Senate.

The next day, May 23, the Miami Herald reported that Foley argued “that it’s nobody’s business but his own” whether or not he’s gay. He was quoted as calling the printed innuendo about his sexual orientation to be “revolting and unforgivable.”

Norman, in his New Times piece, argued he was only reporting what was widely known.

More of THIS KIND of investigation, specifically.

I am certain that there are MORE hardline "family values" fuckers (synonym with capital 'R' Republicans) who are doing their best to fuck kids (metaphorically AND literally).

Ding Ding ...warning warning...danger Will Robinson

What pisses me off the most about this? I understand that it is an open secret that Foley is gay...NOW this will simply give more ammo to the foaming at the mouth freaks that gays = pedophiles.

Which brings me to my son, who is gay, and detests pedophiles. There is a difference, but this will allow the extremists to try and validate their "told ya gays were pedophiles" mentality because they see no difference, and want to convince everyone on the planet that gays and pedophiles are one in the same, when the educated and enlightened folk know that is not so.

So, in my limited sampling, heterosexuality is the dangerous orientation for children.

252. That's true in every city, town and state in the US.
It's a serious problem that politicians and the guilty have tried to pin on homosexuals. Treating a kid who has been sexually abused or molested is the most stressful and painful part of my job, especially having to discern if one or both of the parents or household residents is involved. It's not something you ignore and hope that it doesn't ruin someone's political or business career. There's no ethical gray zone. Whatever the "homosexual lifestyle" is, the thought of someone associating your typical male or female with homsexuality has allowed this to happen. As far as I'm concerned, the inability or unwillingness of many more heterosexuals to stand up and at least say that the facts speak otherwise with regards to child abuse and molestation allows more people to molest and abuse children.

My adult sons have always had friends they knew were homosexual - some closeted, some not - and it would never occur to them NOT to defend them against assault or defamation. One woman at my oldest son's funeral made the observation that she was unaware there were so many good-looking, eligible guys in the area (Hey, some people are just like that at funerals). I had to ask Matt one time if he had so many gay friends because it attracted more women. Without skipping a beat, he said "first dad, you probably have no idea which of my friends are gay and which aren't. Anyway, we're the greatest unit there is. I trust them with my life and well being and they trust theirs with me. Women who understand and want to be part of that are especially welcome by all of us, not just the ones who like women sexually as well as for other reasons. These people aren't props. They are my family, too."

Having them stop by on a regular basis is one of the things that has made my life bearable since Matt's death. My younger son (22) has been adopted by the group. It's helped him a real lot, and he's in love with every last man and woman who was a friend of Matt's. He thinks that this is yet another gift from his brother and I can't see it as anything else myself. Matt would have told his friends to take care of his younger brothers. It's just a beautiful thing. The thought that any of them would even be perceived as a child molester pisses me off more than just about anything else. Except lying, criminal cowardly Republicans who dissgrace themselves and their Party through silent or active collaboration.

Anyway, thanks for letting me do my Friday evening vent. You're never not hurting when you lose your first child. And he was a child and man to remember and mourn the loss of. Two of his friends who got married and had their first kid named him Matt. That still just tears me to pieces. I've already spoiled the kid rotten. Matt's room is filled withn age-appropriate gifts for every occasion for the next five years, and I always have an several laughable excuses to stop by and check up on him. He loves the cold ouch bear I put in the fridge for him just in case.

Okay, I'm im love with an 18 month old boy. I admit it!

171. we simply must rebut their saying what you say they will
with - "like there aren't straight men & women who use their power positions over a child to do the same damn thing, you loon!"

if this was not an official with authority over a volunteer worker, and they met in the movies, or library or whatever, Washington DC law says 16 yr old can do what they want with whom they want (but perhaps they have to be from that state?) anyhow, the point is, Foley is ANTI GAY in congress, and here is trying to use his money (to buy presents) and power (the kid is interested in politics) to coerce a BOY into giving him photos and leading him down a path to possibly more (possibly is laughable I know).

249. If we were smart
we would paint EVERY rethug up for reelection as being exactly like him... and make them refute it.

That is how they work. The accusation isn't true, it is a broad brush.... but that is how the general public thinks.

We need to start painting the most creepy repubs we can find with this brush. Augment it with all the other cons (again, LITERALLY) who have been convicted of this crime, or a similar crime.

Gays are "after your children"? No, republicans are. AND WE HAVE PROOF.

Think, people. Think. This is gold we can paint the all with, legit or not. It doesn't matter.

They would do the same to us. By not doing it first, it isn't "sinking to their level".

It's "responding on a level they understand."

Y'know, Frank is as gay as the day is long, but he's not been implicated in anything with any underage kids. It's kind of crappy to smear anyone with that stigma, no matter what party, unless you have something to back it up. Foley has emails floating around talking about how good the new kid on the Hill looks and about his trips to the gym and sweaty bike rides and picture swaps, I'd say he's got something to hide since the investigation hasn't even really gone into this very deep yet.

When did the Democrats know about this? If Foley is a child predator and the Democrats found out and sat on it until it benefitted them politically, then how many children did they put at risk for their political gain?"

They get our soldiers killed for political gain. They put American citizen lives at danger for their political gain. They don't care about children, they favor murder in the womb.

36. Florida Election Law (about replacement)
(4)(a) In the event that death, resignation, withdrawal, removal, or any other cause or event should cause a party to have a vacancy in nomination which leaves no candidate for an office from such party, the Department of State shall notify the chair of the appropriate state, district, or county political party executive committee of such party; and, within 5 days, the chair shall call a meeting of his or her executive committee to consider designation of a nominee to fill the vacancy. The name of any person so designated shall be submitted to the Department of State within 7 days after notice to the chair in order that the person designated may have his or her name on the ballot of the ensuing general election. If the name of the new nominee is submitted after the certification of results of the preceding primary election, however, the ballots shall not be changed and the former party nominee’s name will appear on the ballot. Any ballots cast for the former party nominee will be counted for the person designated by the political party to replace the former party nominee. If there is no opposition to the party nominee, the person designated by the political party to replace the former party nominee will be elected to office at the general election. For purposes of this paragraph, the term “district political party executive committee” means the members of the state executive committee of a political party from those counties comprising the area involving a district office.

204. Lautenberg is one of the best Senators the US has ever had
He would have beaten any opponent he ran against. As for the Florida law, it really doesn't impact the Republican Party much at all. If they tell voters who they have picked, those who would vote Puke will do so by voting the Foley line. It's a good situation for them because they can chose a person who only has to spout some generic crap that Pukes think their reps actually adhere to, and he could easily win. It's a solidly red CD.

We should be focusing on winning the seat for the Democratic nominee, not counting it as a sure win.

It was too late according to New Jersey law as well, but the Democrats went ahead and changed the ballot anyway. It was challenged by the NJ GOP, but the ballot name change was upheld by the NJ Supreme Court, and the US Supreme Court declined to take up the case.

38. Is this the beginning of the end . . .
Of the turnaround the media have been hooting about ever since Bush started his latest terra-terra-terra offensive keyed to the 9/11 anniversary? Certainly the boost in the polls looks like a dead-cat bounce; Ney has fallen off the edge of the world; Dems are surging in unexpected races; Clinton toasted Wallace on Fox; the NIE is damning as all get-out; Woodward's book is setting the chattering classes off for who knows how long; Schimpanski's speeches are getting more and more crazed . . . and now a 'Lican Rep seems to have spontaneously combusted.

Does anyone sense meltdown in the air?

(Now, if the Dems had shown backbone on the Torture Bill, we'd be looking at a quadruple trifecta.)

Hi,

I live in Florida. A breaking news report just came on, stating that Foley is resigning this afternoon (it was a rumor beforehand). They don't know exactly when.

Apparently, there are other allegations now. The news anchor described them as being "far more serious."

The woman talking on the phone says it caught everyone by surprise, that the day was going as normal until he suddenly announced it.

Foley submits resignation to Congress
DAVID ESPO
Associated Press

WASHINGTON - Rep. Mark Foley, R-Fla., submitted a letter of resignation from Congress on Friday in the wake of questions about e-mails he wrote a former male page, according to a congressional official.

Foley, 52, had been considered a shoo-in for re-election until the e-mails surfaced in recent days.

Campaign aides had previously acknowledged that the Republican congressman e-mailed the former Capitol page five times, but had said there was nothing inappropriate about the exchange. The page was 16 at the time of the e-mail correspondence.

Foley's election opponent, Democrat Tim Mahoney, has called for an investigation.

The correspondence took place in August 2005 after the boy gave Foley a handwritten thank you note before returning to Louisiana.

That wasn't mentioned in the link above. I hadn't heard anything about another batch of e-mails until Schultz mentioned it.

He is also Co-Chairman of the Missing and Exploited Childrens Caucus and Co-Chairman of the Travel and Tourism Caucus.

http://www.house.gov/foley/about/bio.htm

U.S. Representative from Florida's sixteenth congressional district.

Southern Florida's sixteenth congressional district includes residents of Charlotte, Glades, Hendry, Highlands, Martin, Okeechobee, Palm Beach and St. Lucie Counties.

At the beginning of the 106th Congress, Congressman Foley was appointed to the powerful House Ways and Means Committee He plays an important role in reforming the tax code, providing tax relief, expanding trade, seeking solutions to save social security, shoring up Medicare, reforming welfare, and addressing child safety issues.

In addition to his committee assignment, Congressman Foley serves as a member of the House leadership as a Deputy Majority Whip. He is also Co-Chairman of the Missing and Exploited Childrens Caucus and Co-Chairman of the Travel and Tourism Caucus.

Congressman Foley has been instrumental in passing important legislation. He secured $200 million in federal funding towards the preservation of the Florida's Everglades; the first ever financial contribution towards this cause. Furthermore, he supported legislation expediting the deportation of non-violent criminal aliens serving their sentences in federal prisons.

A testimony to his commitment to youth, he also passed a law allowing volunteer youth-serving organizations to have access to F.B.I. fingerprint background checks when denied that access by state law. To ensure student safety, he eliminated federal prohibitions on notifying a campus community when a student commits a violent crime.

Foley also successfully sought a solution for surviving heirs of Holocaust victims who were unable to collect on life insurance policies. In support of healthcare issues, he passed legislation that doubled funding for rare disease research, which was signed into law by President Bush.

Even more, Congressman Foley has assisted over 1,500 individuals with Social Security concerns, veterans’ benefits, immigration and more; secured over $35 million in funding for important local projects; joined with Senator Chuck Hagel to propose a prescription drug discount plan for seniors; and authored legislation to protect businesses from frivolous lawsuits or “drive-by lawsuits” based on disability laws.

83. Foley e-mail about another youth: "....and he's in really great shape."
The Republican Wall of Shame.

Congressman Mark Foley, (R-FL)

From the St. Pete Times:

The Foley campaign, responding to a barrage of news media questions about the e-mails, said Mahoney's campaign was engaging in "character assassination."

The boy served as a page to a Louisiana congressman last year and came to know Foley, 52. He sent the congressman a thank-you note when his term as a page ended. After the boy returned to his home in Louisiana, Foley used his personal e-mail account to correspond with the teen.

In the exchange, Foley asked the boy about weathering Hurricane Katrina and wrote, "send me an e-mail pic of you." In another e-mail, Foley told the boy he was on a break from Congress and was in Florida. He asked the boy, "how old are you now?"

The boy forwarded excerpts from the e-mails to congressional staffers and said, "Maybe it is just me being paranoid, but seriously. This freaked me out."

The boy, who is not being identified because of his age, told the St. Petersburg Times in an interview last November, when the Times first learned of the e-mails, that he cut off correspondence with Foley.

"I thought it was very inappropriate," the boy told the Times. "After the one about the picture, I decided to stop e-mailing him back."

snip

ABC News reported that Foley's office said he routinely asked interns and job applicants for photographs. But when the Times asked Foley about the e-mails nearly a year ago, he did not mention that practice. He said he was merely trying to be friendly and did not mean to make the boy uncomfortable.

Foley has had e-mail exchanges with at least one other former page who told the Times he was surprised to get an e-mail from a congressman.

snip

And from the Palm Beach Post:

In the five e-mails sent from his personal account, Foley asks the page - whose identity is being withheld - when his birthday is, how old he will be, what he likes to do, and what he wants for his birthday. Foley also asks the teenager to send him a photograph.

In one e-mail, Foley wrote that he had just e-mailed another youth whom he describes - using ellipses between phrases - as "such a nice guy ... acts much older than his age ... and hes (sic) in really great shape."

The Republican Wall of Shame.

Republican Foley of Florida to resign seat-sources

Fri Sep 29, 2006 03:26 PM ET

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Six-term Republican Rep. Mark Foley of Florida will resign from the U.S. Congress following allegations he sent inappropriate e-mails to a 16-year-old male congressional intern, Republican sources said on Friday.

Foley, who represents a district in southern Florida, has served as chairman of a House caucus on missing and exploited children and was a member of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee, which oversees tax and trade policy.

Republican lawyers are examining state election laws to see if his name can be removed from the ballot in his Republican-leaning district, the party sources said.

From his own site:

FOLEY CHILD SAFETY LEGISLATION PASSES SENATE

July 21, 2006
WASHINGTON - Congressman Mark Foley (R-FL), Co-chairman of the Missing and Exploited Children Caucus, applauded Senate passage of legislation he authored and introduced overhauling our nation’s sex offender registration and notification laws.

“For too long our nation has tracked library books better than it has sex offenders. That day is coming to an end,” said Foley. “Senator Hatch and Leader Frist have been resolute in keeping this legislation on track. We are closing loopholes that sex offenders and pedophiles have used to prey on children.”

Included in the legislation are provisions Foley authored and introduced last year including:

Highlights of the Foley Provisions in H.R. 4472, the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006

A. Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (Title I)

223. I knew Republican Marty
he committed suicide after being arrested. I grew up with him - knew him all my life, played together as pre-schoolers, and graduated high school with him. He preached good old family/Republican values back in the 90's but he was also a drug dealer and liked the very young girls - his attitude was that it was okay for him to be that way - he was a Republican and a George Bush lover from way way back. He even paid a teenager to go on our 25th h.s. anniversary cruise with him and they stayed high on ecstasy the entire trip (when she wasn't flashing us with her thong on deck!) He tried to pick up my daughter by bragging that he had once smuggled LSD into the country in his rolex!

I gave him hell when he was arrested and felt badly when he died, but then I realized that he was the only one responsible for his horrid little life.

And he has sent them to more than one. As he tried to say there was nothing to it. Watch Fox, MSNBC and CNN miss reporting this. But Fox might come out with it being "politically" motivated.

Never mind this guy is indubitably a pedophile, they will condone it to try to make the dems look bad. I still have not heard anything, anything at all on CNN. And if I remember correctly I did not hear anything about the assistant director at Homeland Security or the Human Resources guy at Washington Times. Why do the keep something quiet about the republicans. They could not shut up when McGreevey resigned when he came out about being Homosexual.

Florida Republican Foley Resigns From U.S. House Seat (Update1)

By Nicholas Johnston and Brian Faler

Sept. 29 (Bloomberg) -- Representative Mark Foley, a Florida Republican, submitted a letter of resignation to House Speaker Dennis Hastert today after ABC News queried him about sexually explicit messages with underage congressional pages.

``I am deeply sorry and I apologize for letting down my family and the people of Florida I have had the privilege to represent,'' Foley said in a statement.

ABC News today said the network had read excerpts of instant messages provided by former pages who said Foley made references to sexual organs and acts.

``He has done the right thing,'' said Hastert, an Illinois Republican. ``None of us feel very happy about this.'' Hastert said he had asked the head of the page board to investigate.

Just colour this seat blue. :patriot:

The e-mails revealed at Raw Story don't appear "sick." Overly friendly, but not improper--even the request for a picture.

I'm amazed at the speed with which his resignation was announced. Standard GOP procedure would involve months of denial before a tearful confession. Was Foley worried about more incriminating stuff that could come to light? Perhaps with the alluded-to "Will"?

They say he used the screen name Maf54 on these messages provided to ABC News.

Maf54: You in your boxers, too?
Teen: Nope, just got home. I had a college interview that went late.
Maf54: Well, strip down and get relaxed.

Another message:

Teen: tshirt and shorts
Maf54: Love to slip them off of you.

And this one:

Maf54: Do I make you a little horny?
Teen: A little.
Maf54: Cool.

235. Remarks by Foley about pedophiles

FOLEY SAYS NEW CHILD PORN LEGISLATION WILL PROTECT AMERICA’S CHILDREN

http://www.gop.gov/item-news.asp?N=20020501102427

“This legislation is a pedophile’s worst nightmare. It virtually guarantees we’re helping protect America’s children.

“Whether in movies or photographs, it doesn’t make a difference if the child engaged in sex is real or virtual. It’s impossible to tell and the effect is the same.

“I hope this legislation meets the standards set by the Supreme Court. Pedophiles do not have a First Amendment right to gawk over exploited children, real or virtual.”

- Mark Foley

210. For legal clarification, what is the male and female age of sexual consent
in Washington DC and/or Florida? I ask because in some countries (eg the UK) it's 16, and so this would just be a question of whether it was sexual harrassment, with the age not a legal concern. How distasteful people may personally find it is another matter. But I do note Foley is single.

...indicates that Foley's proclivities were already common knowledge on the Hill at that point.

The Real Problem With Foley (0 / 0)
It's not that he's gay. It's that he constantly hits on underage interns on The Hill. You guys talk about an "open secret" well Foley's eye for the young boys in the White House and around the Capitol is what has the Republican bosses scared to death. It's just wrong that this guy can hit on young boys and still be in the leadership.

232. Tom Delay
was called the hammer, what the hell did they call this goof.
One former page told ABC News that his class was warned about Foley by people involved in the program.
Other pages told ABC News they were hesitant to report Foley because of his power in Congress.
Is this the kind of power the old farts of Florida wanted when they elected this pervert.

236. House Speaker Complicit in Foley Teen Sex Scandal Coverup?
Rep. Mark Foley (R-FL) Resigns over sexually explicit Email's and IM's to 16 year old boy...

Here is one of the sexually explicit instant messages to a 16 year old boy (Foley's screenname is Maf54):
http://abcnews.go.com/images/WNT/02-02-03b.pdf">House Speaker Complicit in Foley Teen Sex Scandal Coverup?

The Republican House leadership are monsters. They knew and let him remain in the GOP leadership for a year. They let him remain the Chairman of the child sex offender caucus. Jesus H. Christ.

GOP = Gathering Of Pedophiles

Foley was Chairman of the House Caucus on Missing and Exploited Children
http://blogs.abcnews.com/theblotter/2006/09/foley_resigns_o.html">House Speaker Complicit in Foley Teen Sex Scandal Coverup?

The Republican House leadership has known about (and covered up) Foley for a year
Quote:
The page worked for Rep. Rodney Alexander, R-La., who said Friday that when he learned of the e-mail exchanges 10 to 11 months ago, he called the teen's parents. Alexander told the Ruston Daily Leader, "We also notified the House leadership that there might be a potential problem," a reference to the House's Republican leaders.

239.  To keep seat, Republicans will have to vote for a pedophile in Nov
To keep seat, Republicans will have to vote for a pedophile in Nov
Foley's name has to stay on the ballot, while votes cast for him will be counted toward his party's new choice.

http://www.tpmmuckraker.com/archives/001642.php
snip>
Here's the relevant statute:

.....If the name of the new nominee is submitted after the certification of results of the preceding primary election, however, the ballots shall not be changed and the former party nominee's name will appear on the ballot. Any ballots cast for the former party nominee will be counted for the person designated by the political party to replace the former party nominee.

NOW WON'T THAT BE SOMETHING ..CHRISTIAN CONSERVATIVES WILL HAVE TO CAST A VOTE FOR A PEDOPHILE IN ORDER TO REPLACE HIM IN THE NOVEMEBER ELECTION..THAT IS UNLESS THEY VOTE DEM AND A NON PEDOPHILE...

PEDOPHILE OR LIBERAL...LETS SEE ..WHICH WOULD A CHRISTIAN CONSERVATIVE PLACE THEIR VOTE FOR?? ONE CARES ABOUT CHILDREN... THE OTHER DOESN'T..I GUESS WE WILL SEE THE TRUE COLORS OF CONSERVATIVES WON'T WE??

Congressman quits after messages to teens found

POSTED: 8:01 p.m. EDT, September 29, 2006
From CNN's Dana Bash
CNN Washington Bureau

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Republican Rep. Mark Foley resigned Friday from the House after sexually explicit instant message conversations with teenage congressional pages attributed to him surfaced.

The instant message conversations were published on ABCNews.com and other Internet blogs.

According to ABCNews.com, someone using the screen name "Maf54," which ABC identified as Foley, communicated with congressional pages.

ABCNews.com posted these instant message exchanges:

Maf54: You in your boxers, too?
Teen: Nope, just got home. I had a college interview that went late.
Maf54: Well, strip down and get relaxed.

ABCNews.com also cited this exchange:

Maf54: What ya wearing?
Teen: tshirt and shorts
Maf54: Love to slip them off of you.

A third example from ABCNews.com:

Maf54: Do I make you a little horny?
Teen: A little.
Maf54: Cool.

E-mail exchange questioned

Earlier Friday, a former congressional page questioned e-mails Foley had sent to him, describing it as "sick." Foley, a Florida representative, apparently sent the e-mails in August 2005, when the male page was 16 years old.......

263. Good night...
This Foley character has got to be one of the dumbest son's of bitches that side of the Mississippi. Did he honestly think that he could carry on like that and NOT get caught. It's so disgusting that he would actually engage in such behavior... However, I will say that this boy wasn't exactly resisting. That's neither here nor there though. What Foley did was wrong, and I shudder to think of what else this sick freak is guilty of...

After all, he was elected during Newt's 1994 "Contract on America". He must have some choice bits of hypocrisy out there, concerning the Clinton-Lewinsky persecution.

268. This incident is a gift straight from the heavens to the Democrats.
I might start believing in God. The only pathetic thing I've heard come from the Republicans starts with "Well, Clinton . . . yada, yada, yada." You don't have to bother to respond that both individuals in that instance were consenting adults - just give them a good roll of the eyes.
