Group Accuses Allen of Spurning Heritage (LOL the SCV turns on him)
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/09/28/AR2006092801144.html

RICHMOND, Va. -- Sen. George Allen's use of the word "macaca" for a young man of Indian descent forced him to spend the past six weeks disputing claims that his past is littered with racist language and a fondness for Confederate symbols. On Thursday, the furor came full circle when the Sons of Confederate Veterans turned on Allen.

The organization criticized the Republican for saying he had been slow to grasp the pain that Old South symbols like the Confederate flag cause black people.

"The denunciation of the flag to score political points is anathema to our organization," Brag Bowling, immediate past state commander of the SCV, told reporters near the state Capitol, once the Confederacy's seat of government.

"Before the Macaca incident, this race was over. George Allen had a 16-point lead in the polls and had a huge financial advantage over his opponent, who had no money. In one moment, he took a race that was essentially won and turned it competitive overnight," said Robert D. Holsworth, a political science professor at Virginia Commonwealth University.

"Allen's mistake is he's taken his re-election for granted and he's been getting his nice presidential team together," conservative commentator Bay Buchanan said last week on CNN.

1. Did you know he comes from a football family?
That's his only claim to fame.

Everyone else has abandoned him.

Goodbye, George.

2. One for the ages. A poss future president brought down by a fatal flaw...
A classic tragedy. Hollywood could not have written it better. I hope he does not hurt himself phsyically.

4. This race isn't over yet
I've been alarmed and dismayed that Allen has rebounded in the polls and is now leading Webb (by a small amount, but still in the lead). Webb needs all the help he can get, and hopefully the SCV has given him some help. I think Webb will win in the end, but don't act like the fat lady's sung. She sings on 07 November and we've just begun the second act.

statement from the Sons of Confederate Veterans condemning his apology for the displaying the confderate flag and calling it a symbol of hate --- I am pretty sure he is done as Senator too. Her's their statement....

"George Allen was a good friend of ours, and we don't appreciate him turning on us to get out of political trouble," said Frank Earnest of Virginia Beach, commander of the Virginia division of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. "He's degraded us, the flag and our heritage."

9. hhhhhhhhmmmmmmm.......
"Sons of Confederate Veterans"? I wonder how much Mr. Allen's newly publicized "Jewish" heritage plays into the SCV's decision to come out publically against him? Call me cynical, but I think this bothers them more than anything.

10. That's not really surprising-Allen was in the "Senator for life" range
or very near it (not in John Warner stratus though) so taking him down would require a well organized and complete strategy that is hammered home on an almost daily basis (sort of like Swiftboating) and luckily the Allen campaign was ready and willing to pick up that ball and run with it.

The poli-sci guy quoted in the article is full of s**t on this matter. Webb had much more support (carried over from the campaign here in '04) than any of the expert wanted to admit. See doing that might call into question the results from two years ago you know the ones where W never held a lead outside the margin or error and the exit polls showed Kerry dead even on election day only to find out that the actual count gave W an 8% win. Yeah we wouldn't find anything wrong with that story now could we?

3. His career is over.
He can only save it by saying something racist, but deniably so. Watch for it.

6. How about this part?
"The denunciation of the flag"... the flag. Not the Confederate flag. The flag.
