Al-Qaida in Iraq leader urges 'holy war'
Associated Press

CAIRO, Egypt - The new leader of al-Qaida in Iraq urged Muslims to make the holy month of Ramadan a "month of holy war," in an audiotape posted on Islamic Web site Thursday. He also purportedly said that more than 4,000 foreign fighters have been killed in Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion.

The man on the tape identified himself as Abu Hamza al-Muhajir - also known as Abu Ayyub al-Masri - the leader of al-Qaida in Iraq, though the voice could not be independently identified. He is believed to have succeeded Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, who died in a U.S. airstrike north of Baghdad in June.

"I congratulate the Muslim nation on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan, the month of jihad (holy war). I ask God to make it a month for honor and victory for Muslims," the voice said.

4. Make?
It's a standard line about Ramadhan. 'Month of jihad'. Nothing innovated by him.

Al-Qaida in Iraq: 4,000 insurgents dead
Associated Press

CAIRO, Egypt - The new leader of al-Qaida in Iraq said in an audio message posted on a Web site Thursday that more than 4,000 foreign insurgent fighters have been killed in Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion in 2003. It was believed to be the first major statement from insurgents in Iraq about their losses.

"The blood has been spilled in Iraq of more than 4,000 foreigners who came to fight," said the man, who identified himself as Abu Hamza al-Muhajir - also known as Abu Ayyub al-Masri - the leader of al-Qaida in Iraq. The voice could not be independently identified.

6. Iraq Qaeda seeks Western hostages to free cleric
Al Qaeda's leader in Iraq called for the kidnapping of Westerners to swap for a Muslim cleric jailed in the United States, according to an Internet audio tape issued on Thursday.

"I call on every holy fighter in Iraq to strive during this holy month (Ramadan)... to capture some dogs of the Christians so that we can liberate our imprisoned sheik," said the speaker, identified as Abu Hamza al-Muhajir.

He accused U.S. jailers of "torturing" Egyptian cleric Omar Abdel-Rahman, held over links to the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center in New York.

The speaker also called for attacks on U.S. military camps in Iraq using "unconventional bombs such as biological and dirty bombs".

8. Patrick Quinn's AP article on Yahoo
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060928/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraq_audiota

According to some sources Al Masri and Al Muhajir are one and the same. Al Masri is supposedly incarcerated in Egypt. Do you get the feeling that we are being snowed by these 'messages'? Doesn't make much sense that the terrorists would be giving out their plans for the all world to see. The wording of the message written by Quinn is so 'western', like using the word 'swap'in reference to prisoner exchange. Is this an attempt the keep the fear factor in force? So much propaganda swirling around the net. So many confusing Arabic names. What to think?
