Bush presses Senate on anti-terror bill
Edited on Thu Sep-28-06 09:30 AM by Marie26
WASHINGTON - President Bush urged the Senate on Thursday to follow the House lead and approve a White House plan for detaining and interrogating terrorism suspects, saying, "The American people need to know we're working together to win the war on terror."

Bush met in the Capitol with Senate Republicans the day after the House passed the legislation that Republicans likely will use on the campaign trail to assert that Democrats want to coddle terrorists.

"People shouldn't forget there's still an enemy out there that wants to do harm to the United States," Bush told reporters after the closed-door meeting.

Senate Republicans agreed on the measure with the exception of whether to allow terrorists the right to protest their detentions in court. Sen. Arlen Specter (news, bio, voting record), R-Pa., chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, contends the ability to file a "habeas corpus" petition is considered a fundamental legal right and necessary to uncover abuse.

1. He wants those 'war powers' so that he can turn this country
upside down. He has plans and I wouldn't be surprised if they included 'postponing' elections. If you think I'm crazy let me ask you, has he ever failed to live down to your worst expectations yet?

2. Agreed - Chimp will stop elections if he can.
He needs to stay in power. He knows he's in deep doodoo if he don't don't.

3. I don't think you're crazy
But there is a more then a few here that will accuse you of wearing a "tin foil hat", for thinking like that.

They still truly believe that Bush will play by the rules, though the evidence of the last 5 years is has shown that belief to be simply stupid.

They say that the American people would never stand for it, well the American people seem to have no problem with the Patriot Act, and they seem to embrace the Torture bill as well!

I think we give the American people too much credit.

Would Bush try to postpone the elections, well if all that is being said about the power he will receive when this new law is passed, then he may very well try.
