Rocky Mt. News: It's down to 2: Denver, NYC vie for '08 Dem convention
It's down to 2: Denver, NYC vie for '08 Dem convention
By Alan Gathright, Rocky Mountain News
September 27, 2006

Denver’s now in a head-to-head competition with New York City to host the 2008 Democratic National Convention after the Republicans today picked a key competitor — Minneapolis-St. Paul — to hold their presidential-nominating bash.

The GOP selection of the Twin Cities automatically takes them out of the running for the Democratic event under DNC’s bid rules — and that suits Denver backers just fine....

***

Now the competition ratchets up between the Mile High City and Big Apple. The Democratic National Committee will announce a winner before the end of the year.

"We’re fortunate to have two great bids from two great cities," said DNC spokesman Damien LaVera. "We’re looking forward to working with both New York and Denver and picking the city that has the best bid."

1. Question: What's the point in preventing a city from hosting both
conventions?

3. Please tell me you are kidding
We would go batshit if the other party did that.

That place should never be politicized. Yes, Bush's failure led to 9/11, but the site should remain above the fray.

11. You can count this New Yawker's vote for DENVER.
I for one don't want ANYBODY using Ground Zero to score points. I don't want the Dem convention here because we have enough crap to deal with everyday we don't need the added nonsense of a convention.

Hey George, everything changed... after 1776! Have somebody read the Constitution to you! There WILL be a quiz.

7. I agree about Denver as well.
Plus the stench of the '04 GOP convention is still lingering in the air at the garden.

10. Why can't I believe
that no one considered Philadelphia ("Bring government BACK to what our founding fathers envisioned!")?

Ah well.

13. Not NYC because it would favor Hillary as Boston did Kerry
This is not a slam on Boston or Kerry supporters, but let's not repeat the "coronation" scenario!

We have no prospective Presidential candidates from Colorado, and Denver is a beautiful city with a strong LBGT community plus... I have friends that live there!

20. Here's another New Yorker who wants Denver as the site.
It represents the Mountain West, the springboard to the Democrats comeback.
