'NY Post' Makes Fun of MSNBC's Olbermann Getting Letter -- At Home -- With White Powder

NEW YORK One would think journalists might not make fun of a high-profile industry colleague, in this day and age, receiving an envelope -- at home -- which contains white powder. But that seemed to be the case at the New York Post's "Page Six" today in reporting on an alleged incident involving Keith Olbermann, host of MSNBC's "Countdown."

...

Here is the Post item, which appeared under the headline, "Powder Puff Spooks Keith."

*

MSNBC loudmouth Keith Olbermann flipped out when he opened his home mail yesterday. The acerbic host of "Countdown with Keith Olbermann" was terrified when he opened a suspicious-looking letter with a California postmark and a batch of white powder poured out. A note inside warned Olbermann, who's a frequent critic of President Bush's policies, that it was payback for some of his on-air shtick.

The caustic commentator panicked and frantically called 911 at about 12:30 a.m., sources told The Post's Philip Messing. An NYPD HazMat unit rushed to Olbermann's pad on Central Park South, but preliminary tests indicated the substance was harmless soap powder. However, that wasn't enough to satisfy Olbermann, who insisted on a checkup. He asked to be taken to St. Luke's Hospital, where doctors looked him over and sent him home. Whether they gave him a lollipop on the way out isn't known. Olbermann had no comment.

So the Post thinks getting a terroristic letter is funny? Those sadistic bastards. I hope they all die from ass cancer.

"Powder Puff Kills Stevens."

The Sun photographer flipped out when he opened his mail at work yesterday. The slimy photojournalist was terrified when he opened a suspicious-looking letter with a California postmark and a batch of white powder poured out. A note inside warned Stevens, a creepy paparrazzi, that it was payback for unflattering photos of celebrities.

Stevens panicked and frantically called 911 at about 12:30 a.m., sources told The Post's Philip Messing. An NYPD HazMat unit rushed to Steven's pad on Central Park South, and preliminary tests indicated he had inhaled deadly anthrax powder. For some reason, Stevens insisted on a checkup. He asked to be taken to St. Luke's Hospital, where doctors looked him over and pronounced him dead on the scene.

to drop dead immediately, as that would draw too much attention to what he has been saying, and put them under suspicion.

However, if he won't take the hint, there's no doubt whatsoever they would kill him in a heartbeat.

Any possibility they are really open to criticism is only an illusion. Freedom for all Americans is really the LAST thing on their minds.

11. Pollyanna checking in...
Watta relief!
Actually, this could be a good thing. Keith is, I would think, fully cognizant of the gravity and dead nuts serious aspect of this battle royale pitching ideology against philosophy, weak souled me-too-ism and its concomitant pole axed frontal lobe stunned conformity, inlaid with ditto'd rushbot authenticity, versus wide ranging kitten curiosity coupled with spotty memory at holding grudges.

The wingwit responsible for this idiocy, although eligible for a rather limited future, may have done K.O. a bit of a favor, just in case he has missed, concealed none too successfully, the deadly bitter, nut cutter viciousness that is the gold standard of wingerism.

Keith is very smart and he is, thankfully, doing his grande activism for himself, not for us, at least not the part where character is created and manifested, then for the integrity team, and he reacted, I am convinced, that he reacted nothing like these schiess mongers would have us believe.

My family, our family, has been threatened. I want to hold onto this bit of questionable comfort, pending further developments.

19. I'm sure that this article...
doesn't have ANYTHING to do with K.O.'s comments on a roomful of reporters & our current secretary of State...

At the same time, the president‘s top diplomat lashing out at former President Clinton for having defended himself in an interview with Fox News against charges that his administration is actually to blame for this mess, because it did not wipe out al Qaeda on its watch, Secretary of State Rice launching herself before a friendly audience indeed, a room full of reporters and editors from “The New York Post,” Mr.—Ms. Rice telling the newspaper that the Bush White House tried just as hard to go after Osama bin Laden as the Clinton White House did, quote, “What we did in the eight months was at least as aggressive as what the Clinton administration did in the preceding years. The notion somehow for eight months the Bush administration sat there and didn‘t do that is just flatly false—and I think the 9/11 commission understood that,” end quote.

My emphasis added...

22. They can't handle the truth
As journalism, this is pathetic. As propaganda it's desperate. The rightwing is so far beyond having any moral ground to stand on that this is all that is left them: to bully and threaten like self-appointed gestapo. We're not human to them. If you're compliant and silent they'll let you live out your life in the wreckage of our country. But if you speak the truth, they react with the only weapons they have: fear.

Keith's words were strong. Very. I wondered when I heard him what price he would pay. Job loss? Death threats? Death? It takes courage to do what he did, and I am grateful to him.

dare the left side into a more lawless approach (like they seem to be operating in). Traditionally over decades and maybe centuries, the right seemed to be for the things they are now opposed to. When did this total flip happen? 2000 maybe, just kind of wondering

Maybe I am generalizing or mis-characterizing too many but is this the way the vast majority of them on the right operate. They think the way go is to follow the party no matter what the cost, or is it just a few that seem to have taken the reigns?

43. I Don't Think You are Generalizing.
This flip happens because most of these rightists are HYPOCRITES. They are in power now, so the things once condemned are OK.

This is why BALANCE is so important, but most people don't realize that.

31. Olbermann Debunks the Post's Sleazy Story...
...here on his blog:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15036633/

The Bureau asked us not to report any of the details so that the person or persons responsible would not know any of the threats had been received by any of the targets -- and we of course complied.

The New York Post never called NBC News or MSNBC seeking any comment. They would have been told that the FBI had requested we try to keep this quiet.

But of course that would have interfered with the New York Post making fun of a terror threat.

It's almost melodramatic to ask why the New York Post would choose the side of domestic terrorism, rather than choose the side of the FBI.

It's interesting too that Murdoch's paper was able to get a jump on this story so quickly -- nearly as quickly, as if they'd known it was coming.
