(Bill) Clinton: Afghanistan Needs More Troops

Clinton: Afghanistan Needs More Troops
The Associated Press

LONDON -- Former President Bill Clinton said Tuesday the resurgence of the Taliban and growth of the poppy harvest in Afghanistan are signs there are insufficient coalition troops in the country.

Clinton also said the global hunt for al-Qaida leaders must be intensified and warned that fighting terrorism through military methods alone carried a risk of encouraging people to turn to extremism.

...

"I think it is important that the fight against terror secures a genuine Muslim democracy in Afghanistan and that we intensify the hunt for the leaders of al-Qaida, because they are still by far the most dangerous global network with global targets," Clinton said.

The former president said he did not believe Iran's nuclear program was the world's most critical problem. Rather, he said, it was the risk of terrorists acting independently of nations and their potential ability to access nuclear weapons.

5. Oh Boy...
Every time former President Clinton makes a statement "suggesting" a better way, read the Democrat way, of how things should be done. The Republicans go into a frenzy lamenting, he's not the president anymore and it's inappropriate for him to comment on US policy....

<aside>

Thanks, Bill...for being there and the sane voice of reason.

Bill (The Gambler) Bennett, (hypocrite) on nbc's the Today Show, advising Matt Lauer, Prez Clinton shouldn't have said anything regarding Iraq; reinforcing the LIE we needed to go to Iraq because of 9/11. Shoving Dough-Boy Bennett as WH spokesperson for the moment..means the usual natives are busy caucusing a new strategy to further destroy US and the world.

6. Clinton is as allowed to speak his mind on US policy as anyone else
in the world is, including that motherfucker bush.

That's a FACT.

But pouring more troops into a lost cause is crap. And that's MY right to say.

Rightwingnuts can fuck off and die; they'd be doing the entire world a huge favor.

2. If there ever was a chance to 'win' the war in Afganistan it's long past.
Anymore when I hear politicians advocating throwing more American bodies into lost causes I expect at the very least to see them encouraging their own young to join up and fight for the cause.

There's no way that this country can get buy with the number of troops we have now. Now with all the shit the idiot front man and his criminal thugs have started and have planned. To call for more troops and not call for immediate withdrawal in Iraq is idiotic. Unless you plan on a draft. Because we can't keep recycling the same troops over and over and over. And it has been proven definitively that we cannot win a war by air strikes along, so contrary to what the neos think, they can't bomb Iran and walk away. (Sane and logical thinking people would have learned that with Iraq but they are neither sane or logical thinking.)

So I would say that unless Clinton calls for an immediate withdrawal from Iraq and a cessation of the insanely hostile rhetoric against Iran, he's better be out there beating the bushes for more cannon fodder.

9. I think what Clinton is saying..
Is because of the successful poppy crop/opium, the insurgents are drawn to A-stan to do a little harvesting $$$ of their own. Funding for the Jihad. Also, because of the nature of the insurgency, the forces we need have to be flexible enough to rove the Middle East in pursuit of al Quaida. With the entrenchment of troops in Iraq, we are seriously lacking in flexibility to do more.

"risk of terrorists acting independently of nations and their potential ability to access nuclear weapons."

that nails it.

Clinton is totally aware, and at the top of his game.

our present "president" is a joke.

11. This policy is sure drifting
The original idea was that Afghans would not accept foreignors so we would have to keep our troops very limited in number and out of the population centers.

Now little by little we're increasing the numbers of troops there.

This is mission drift at its worst.
