Economic Report: Health Care Premiums Up 7.7 Percent So Far in 2006 - 09/27/06

Economic Report:

By Jesse Russell

Healthcare costs continue to rise - outpacing workers' wage gains and inflation. A new survey released on Tuesday by the Kaiser Family Foundation found health insurance premiums climbing an average 7.7 percent in 2006. While that is a slight decline in the growth rate, premiums for family coverage have shot up 87 percent since 2000.

1. Okay government, it's time to govern if you want to keep YOUR jobs.
I mean, with November elections coming up fast, you might want to consider something for the folks who voted you in.

3. This Could Be Very Good (Seriously)
Over the last five years, premiums have been increasing much faster than that, in fact, some years have seen double digit increases. So, relatively speaking, less than 8% isn't bad for health insurance.

I am NOT being sarcastic. You can say it's a sad state of affairs when double the rate of inflation is "good" but really, I'm taking it as a positive sign

4. The rate of inflation.
Economics is so much fun. There are so many lies in play that it's hard to get your bearings.
