2001 memo to Rice contradicts statements about Clinton, Pakistan
Larry Womack
Published: Tuesday September 26, 2006

A memo received by United States Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice shortly after becoming National Security Advisor in 2001 directly contradicts statements she made to reporters yesterday, RAW STORY has learned.

"We were not left a comprehensive strategy to fight al Qaeda," Rice told a reporter for the New York Post on Monday. "Big pieces were missing," Rice added, "like an approach to Pakistan that might work, because without Pakistan you weren't going to get Afghanistan."

Rice made the comments in response to claims made Sunday by former President Bill Clinton, who argued that his administration had done more than the current one to address the al Qaeda problem before the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. She stopped short of calling the former president a liar.

However, RAW STORY has found that just five days after President George W. Bush was sworn into office, a memo from counter-terrorism expert Richard A. Clarke to Rice included the 2000 document, "Strategy for Eliminating the Threat from the Jihadist Networks of al-Qida: Status and Prospects." This document devotes over 2 of its 13 pages of material to specifically addressing strategies for securing Pakistan's cooperation in airstrikes against al Qaeda and the Taliban in Afghanistan.

1. Rice is a habitual liar.
The only time she tells the plain truth is when she's completely cornered and has no choice in the matter.

2. Without a doubt...
She is the biggest liar on the planet. And I never liked her, from the days of GHW Bush. I was never impressed with her. Ever. And I don't understand statements of admiration for her intelligence. How intelligent can she possibly be? Look who she works for.

Before she was in the government she was provost at Stanford. You never heard anything about her. She had virtually no experience at all when she took over NSA and the way she canned Clarke says that loudly.
The Bush administration came in with a preset agenda--terrorism wasn't any part of it, they were going after China originally to be The Enemy. They had to scramble after 911, to pretend they knew about terrorism all along, because they were so completely blindsided. No one has a bigger investment in making clinton wrong than Condi--if he's right, she was completely incompetent for her job. Remember the quote? "Who ever would have thought people would fly airplanes into bulidings?" Condi Rice, 9/11. Clueless. just plain clueless. she got promoted to Sec State for the same reason Bremer, Franks and Tenet got the Medal of Freedom--to whitewash their incompetence.
What has Condi actually ever done as Sec of State?

Dear Countdown AND Keith -

Your show tonight (Wednesday, 9/27) is expected to examine the "missing 8 months" and what the Bush team did or did NOT do to fight terrorism. Are you going to include the Hart/Rudman report they ignored? And did you see the memo linked in this story - from Richard Clarke to Contradicta Rice (also evidently ignored):

http://www.rawstory.com/news/2006/2001_memo_to_Rice_contradicts_statements_0926.html

THANK GOD for you guys!!! You're the only outlet on TV/cable actually probing and presenting TRUTHS.

God BLESS you! You, like Obi-Wan Kenobi, are our only hope.

-------------

Guys, I suggest STRONGLY that a bunch of us send this link and anything else we find that's relevant/helpful to Keith Olbermann. Last night, he said that tonight's show was going to examine the "missing eight months" before 9/11 to see whether the bushies fought terrorism as "aggressively" as the Clinton people did - as contradicta (falsely) claims. If they get a bunch of info, it might enhance their coverage. NONE of these truths are getting out there, otherwise. I mean, have YOU heard anybody else - ANYWHERE - bringing this stuff up?

9. Rice simply decided that study wasn't comprehensive enough for her,
therefore it wasn't comprehensive FOR ANYONE or TO ANYONE.

It's not a lie per se. Just completely dishonest.

'01 memo to Rice warned of al-Qaeda and offered plan
BY: Scott Shane, New York Times
02/12/2005

WASHINGTON, Feb. 11 - A strategy document outlining proposals for eliminating the threat from Al Qaeda, given to Condoleezza Rice as she assumed the post of national security adviser in January 2001, warned that the terror network had cells in the United States and 40 other countries and sought unconventional weapons, according to a declassified version of the document.

The 13-page proposal presented to Dr. Rice by her top counterterrorism adviser, Richard A. Clarke, laid out ways to step up the fight against Al Qaeda, focusing on Osama bin Laden's headquarters in Afghanistan. The ideas included giving "massive support" to anti-Taliban groups "to keep Islamic extremist fighters tied down"; destroying terrorist training camps "while classes are in session" and then sending in teams to gather intelligence on terrorist cells; deploying armed drone aircraft against known terrorists; more aggressively tracking Qaeda money; and accelerating the F.B.I.'s translation and analysis of material from surveillance of terrorism suspects in American cities.

Personal note: I remember reading this in the NY Times but being after Kerry's defeat forgot about it until Rice lied yesterday.

12. I just realized something about this administration.
Every one of them has always gotten what they wanted. Bush, Cheney, and the whole lot.

I know someone who personally knows Condi. Just after Bush was placed in office, I called my friend and commisserated with him. His last words to me were "What Condi wants, Condi gets".

But it's all changing now.
