NBC 'Nightly News' Ousts Couric From No. 1
By Paul J. Gough
Reuters
NEW YORK (Sept. 26) - After two weeks of victories for CBS and new anchor Katie Couric, NBC's evening newscast returned to first place in viewership last week.

Couric Broadcasting Station

"NBC Nightly News With Brian Williams" averaged 8.2 million viewers for the week ended Friday, according to preliminary estimates released Monday by Nielsen Media Research. That compares with 7.7 million for "CBS Evening News With Katie Couric" and 7.6 million viewers for "ABC World News with Charles Gibson." NBC won each of the five nights. All three newscasts finished the week with a 2.1 rating among adults 25-54, the key news demographic.Williams' boss, NBC Universal chairman Bob Wright, praised NBC's No. 1 placing despite the hoopla surrounding Couric's move to CBS."Brian is back where God wanted him to be, at No. 1," Wright joked Monday afternoon during an Advertising Week session at the Museum of Television & Radio.Since Couric's first newscast at
CBS on Sept. 5, "CBS Evening News" has made the evening news war a real race for the first time in more than a decade. Although the "CBS Evening News" is down 24% in viewership compared to its first week -- while ABC is up 10% and NBC is up 15% -- it's also ahead of where it was a year ago.Meanwhile, Wright said Monday that NBC wanted to keep Couric before she bolted for CBS in the spring. The network had been talking to her representatives about a possible syndication window, but Wright said that with the ratings-challenged experience of "The Jane Pauley Show," that idea seemed to cool in the past year. Wright said NBC had made no secret of the fact that it was going to go with Williams to replace Tom Brokaw when he retired in December 2004."She never really raised her hand to go in that direction," Wright said.

She's going to broadcast live from inside her own colon.

20. Somewhere in the CBS executive suites, a thoughtful voice is asking ...
"She isn't doing T&A?"

"Any reason why not?"

4. They need to totally oust her.
I can barely stand to look at her let alone hear her speak.
I haven't a clue what some of the sheeps see in her.

12. Just wait until Colon Cancer Awareness Week
Not to say her work isn't important on this matter, but a picture of the inside of her ass is surely to help.

She just doesn't have it, when it comes to real news. THE VERY REASON she was successful on the Today Show was that she WASN'T a newsperson, that she was a Chatty Kathy, a nerd, a goof off. Her highlight send off reel was nothing but bloopers, jokes and blown cues.

Those qualities don't go with the serious, heavy biz of the Evening News, and watching her trying to hide her character clown shoes as she attempts a serious demeanor is akin to watching a student's pretend newscast on a middle school closed circuit TV.

Is anyone really surprised?
Once the novelty wore off, it was guaranteed her numbers would tank.

I bet they're already making room for her on "48 Hours."

And did anyone hear Bill Maher say this week that he was invited to participate in the "Free Speech" segment, and then CBS proceeded to send him a list of APPROVED topics? Damn curious definition of "free speech."

As I said in my post beneath yours, I think Katie's more of a "48 Hours" type of gal.

16. I switched from CBS to NBC during Couric's first week
I found the news-lite style of the new CBS show to be a waste of 30 minutes. I left ABC awhile back because our local affiliate is Sinclair-owned and I will NOT watch their spin.

for all those "hard-hitting" interviews she does.

22. Couric is a horse's ass.

She's just not prime-time material. A good spot for her would be something like Entertainment Tonight or some other show biz gossip show. She falls way short of the mark.

23. After the first night she was on
and won the ratings game, I predicted she would be in second or third place by the end of the month and lose 25% of Shafer's audience by the end of the year.
So far...

25. Sink, SInk, Sink, Tink!
Watching that cheap whore kiss Bush's ass the first night and having Pigboy and an endless array of right wingers on her so-called Free Speech segment. I can't wait to see Tinkerbelle Katie sink in a month!
