Dean: President Clinton Stood Up to Right-Wing Propaganda on Fox News Sunday, New NIE Shows Iraq War Has Hampered War On Terror

9/24/2006 5:48:00 PM

To: National Desk, Political Reporter

Contact: Stacie Paxton or Mark Paustenbach, 202-863-8148, both of the Democratic National Committee

WASHINGTON, Sept. 24 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The following release was issued by the Democratic National Committee today:

In an interview with Fox News televised this morning, President Bill Clinton fought back against the right-wing misinformation and smear campaign and stood up for the truth. President Clinton set the facts straight on his administration's record fighting the war on terror. He also stood up against the Fox News' right-wing bullying and propaganda machine, pointing out the lack of tough questions being posed to the current administration. Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean issued the following statement thanking President Clinton for standing up to right-wing propaganda and the need for all Democrats to stand up and tell the truth:

"President Clinton did exactly what Democrats need to do in this election. Democrats need to stand up to the right-wing propaganda machine and tell the truth. Washington Republicans' attempts to twist history and recast the truth do not help us win the war on terror or bring us closer to capturing Osama bin Laden, the mastermind of the Sept. 11 attacks. President Clinton stood up to the misleading tactics of the right-wing propaganda machine. As the National Intelligence Estimate that was reported on today showed, the Iraq War and the Bush Administration's failed policies have hurt our ability to win the war on terror. As President Clinton said, Democrats stand for policies that are both tough and smart and we remain committed to winning the war on terror."

1. Perhaps take a minute to hit Howard Kurtz with a Cluesick
. . .for his abominable coverage on the Wallace-Clinton exchange (http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0609/24/rs.01.html">transcript).

Here's what I sent (includes link to Reliable Sources feedback form)

3. Kurtz is an Assclown. Making up for being the sickly nerd in high school.
First question should be, "Who gives a flip what Howard Kurtz has to say about anything?"

Second question should be, "Who made Kurtz the judge of media bias or fairness?"

Kurtz is irrelevant.

7. The poster above overstated but...
One thing's for certain. I rember many DUers screaming, begging, since 2001 for dems to do exactly what Clinton finally did today--call the mediawhores on their bias, on air, real time. IMO, if Pelosi, Daschle, Reid, Kerry, Dean, et. al. did so, the world would be a much different place today.

Rangel, along with Wes Clark, is one of the few who I've seen stand up to TV interviewers.

10. By making those statements
Edited on Mon Sep-25-06 07:44 AM by DoYouEverWonder
they burst the GOP's chances of using it against them. If they had supported Chavez, FAUX would be charging them with treason.

As much as I cheered and laughed during Chavez's speech, it is still not appropriate for world leaders to call each other out at the UN. Unfortunately, since Bush and Bolton call everyone else evil and terrorist dictators, Chavez was no longer restrained by diplomatic protocol. He had no choice but to respond directly to Bush & Co who attack him on a daily basis.

I bet behind closed doors Palosi and Rangel are laughing with the rest of the world. I hope Colbert, gives Chavez the 'mucho grande huevos' award this week.

....WALLACE: Do you think you did enough, sir?

CLINTON: No, because I didn't get him.

WALLACE: Right.

CLINTON: But at least I tried. That's the difference in me and some, including all the right-wingers who are attacking me now. They ridiculed me for trying. They had eight months to try. They did not try. I tried.

So I tried and failed. When I failed, I left a comprehensive anti-terror strategy and the best guy in the country, Dick Clarke, who got demoted.

So you did Fox's bidding on this show. You did your nice little conservative hit job on me. What I want to know is ...

WALLACE: Well, wait a minute, sir.

CLINTON: No, wait. No, no ...

WALLACE: I want to ask a question. You don't think that's a legitimate question?

CLINTON: It was a perfectly legitimate question, but I want to know how many people in the Bush administration you asked this question of.

I want to know how many people in the Bush administration you asked, "Why didn't you do anything about the Cole?"

I want to know how many you asked, "Why did you fire Dick Clarke?"

I want to know how many people you asked ...
