Iran Says `Everything' Can Be Discussed If U.S. Ends `Threats'
By Ladane Nasseri

Sept. 24 (Bloomberg) -- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said his country is open to discuss ``everything'' if the U.S. stops ``threats'' against the holder of the world's second-largest oil and gas reserves.

``We believe that talks are much better than threats and confrontation,'' Ahmadinejad said in an interview with the Washington Post published today. Some U.S. politicians believe ``they own the entire world, so they speak from that position, looking down at us,'' he said. ``If they change their behavior, it is possible to talk about everything.''

The United States is pushing for sanctions to be imposed on Iran following the country's refusal to suspend its uranium enrichment work despite a United Nations Aug. 31 deadline. The process can be used to make nuclear fuel or build a bomb.

Iran says it is ready to discuss the issue with the permanent members of the UN Security Council -- the U.S., U.K., France, China and Russia -- plus Germany ``at the negotiating table.'' The U.S. insists on the suspension of enrichment suspension as a pre-requisite to talks ...

1. Well this practically guarantees that the threats won't end.
The last thing Bush wants is for Iran to come to the table ready to talk. I mean then he would have to kiss that war good-bye, wouldn't he?

2. That sounds so
reasonable. Too bad this admin doesn't believe in negotiations. Threats are all they know how to do.

3. here is an excellent article from Lance Selfa, he cites le Monde Diplom-
atique towit:

Writing in Le Monde Diplomatique, Walid Charara explained: “Behind the ideological window-dressing of the new ‘democratic messianism,’ there are two main reasons for the Bush administration’s uncompromising determination. First, there is Iran’s geo-strategic status. It is an independent and middle-ranking regional power that has engaged in military cooperation with Russian and China...his makes it the last bastion still to be holding out against a permanent U.S. takeover of the Middle East. Iran is the last surveying ally in the region of those states and organizations still opposed to Israel.”

In the coming months, we will be subjected to a barrage of scare stories about the Iranian bomb, Iranian backing for terrorism, Iranian support for the resistance in Iraq--even Bush’s delusions about a post-Islamic Republic of Iran. That’s why it will be important to remember the real reasons why the U.S. worries about Iran.

Now this was January 2005, so it has all been predicted, but who reads Le Diplo? Why it is originally en francais and opposes globalization!

Here is the link for the article: http://www.dissidentvoice.org/Jan05/Selfa0128.htm

I trust le Diplo for its reporting and analysis.
