Africa: Farmers get $150 million from Bill Gates, Rockefeller

(SomaliNet) A sum of $150 million (about Shs271 billion) has been donated to some African countries by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Rockefeller foundation, Daily Monitor reported Saturday.

Sources say this donation is meant to help the African nations fight hunger and poverty by helping small farmers become more productive.

Additionally, the programme seeks to educate and train African crop scientists, improve crop varieties, increase the supply of seeds with new companies and provide financing to boost the number of village retailers who sell seeds, fertilizer and farm tools.

is pumping much back to the USA. Computers for inner city schools and hey - if you solve Africa's problems...less mayham for the USA to deal with in the future. And he is actually trying to solve some health issues that have never been tackled..even though they are as sophisticated problemwise as smallpox was to solve.

Do you honestly think with 5 % of the population that Bill made most of his money inside the USA? What about the rest of the world. They all use MS too. And have for 25 years.

Plus...the problems in Africa are often that not enough investment was ever made. That they were used and then used again in the "aid game". That only in the 1980s did "girl/child education" become big. That the growth North America went through in the 1800s and 1900s..leading to a middle class..that type of growth of education and skill didn't happen at all in rural areas of Africa.

Why not turn Africa middle class - or set them in this direction - so that the next generation of Bill Gates can sell not just to Europe and Asia..but to Africa too! Bigger markets are not something to sneeze at.

I suppose it would probably be better if he just kept all that money holed away in some bank, where it would never ever be used, eh? God forbid he want to donate money to one of the most poverty-stricken areas in the world.
