Ex-Dynegy executive's sentence cut to 6 years
Reduction from 24 years for Olis could impact cases nationwide

The former Dynegy accountant some called the poster child for lengthy white-collar criminal sentences saw his 24-year prison sentence reduced to six years by a judge on Friday.

Jamie Olis has already served two years, four months in prison for his role in Project Alpha, a transaction that prosecutors said helped the company falsely pump up its finances. But the decision by U.S. District Judge Sim Lake could see him home by the spring of 2010, if not sooner due to time off for good behavior.

"He got his life back today," said Kirby Behre, an attorney who specializes in sentencing at Washington's Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker. "Six years is a long time in jail, but it's a far cry from the nightmare he faced originally."

Olis' attorney, David Gerger, said he was "grateful for the further reduction" in his client's sentence. "The judge put a great deal of scholarship and time into this opinion," Gerger said. "We are very fortunate that we have an independent judiciary."
