Black Muslim leader Farrakhan discloses illness
CHICAGO (Reuters) - Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, 73, has suffered new health problems relating to earlier diagnosed prostate cancer and has canceled all engagements, he said in a letter published on the Web site of his church.

"I have been suffering from the after-effects of an extremely high dose of radiated seed implantation that indeed killed the cancer cells that had broken the prostate capsule, but over time, these seeds have done severe internal damage," he said in the letter dated September 11 and published online at http://www.noi.org.

"I am more than fortunate. I am blessed by Allah to be alive," he added.

Farrakhan, who once called Judaism a "gutter religion" and later said his comments were simply misinterpreted street talk, was a driving force behind the 1995 million-man march on Washington.

It is a god damn 9 paragraph article and they waste one para on that shit.

For this article, just plain tacky.

Oh and I doubt there was too much violence from his stupid remark. If you have any documentation please share.

I am not defending the guy, just think it is kind of shitty in an article that essentially is announcing the man's impending death.

If you think that is interesting, well, that's OK with you then.

this leader than some others that wish to remain stuck on his early years.

That is what RepublicCONS want us to do ~ that is why the Clinton /Monica story almost destroyed Clinton. They keep telling us what to believe and like sheep we don;t listen to the full story.

He is highly respected in the African American community!
Like Malcolm X, in the early years, he was saying the things that MLK could not say.
That is the only way that the POWER and Greed Kings in America would fear him.

There is a play about MLK and Malcolm that speaks to their secret friendship and mutual respect. Malcolm's family and MLK's family have been and remain dear friends. Malcolm's daughter spoke at the Memorial for Mrs. King.

I watched his 1st and 2nd Million Man March replays on CSPAN for hours and did not hear him speak ill of anyone other than those, like Bush, who are not treating the poor, those with Aids and others that have no voice, with dignity and respect.

He wanted to be Inclusive!

Did he make mistakes in his early years, most leaders do.

Has he changed ~ yes!

Thank you for being the voice for those that have no voice because the RepubliCONS tell us what to think about our leaders.

I won't let them tell me what to think and neither will the Millions of people around the globe that respect the works of the Rev.

29. He did so. Did you watch the Million Men Marches

I did and he most certainly did express his inclusiveness of all people and religions.

The only things that he put down were: The NeoCons, Poverty, Injustice, the War in Iraq, the Economy in the US

I opened my ears and heard him myself. I opened my eyes and saw the participants and speakers.

Many of the speakers that were there were LOYAL DEMOCRATS who helped to deliver the African American vote that was STOLEN, not by the REV., but by the RepubliCONS.

The Rev. is NOT the enemy, the enemy is a so called "Christian" that lives in the WHITE House.

End of Discussion

62. yep
anyone who makes statements like:

"You say I hate Jews. I don't hate the Jewish people, I never have. But there some things I don't like. 'What is it you don't like, Farrakhan?' I don't like the way you leech on us. See a leech is somebody that sucks your blood, takes from you and don't give you a damn thing. See, I don't like that kind of arrangement. You become our manager, you become our agent. Every one of us that got talent, we can't make it because you opened the door, and when you opened the door you get and we end up dead with nothing, owing the IRS."

Farrakhan: "Is the Federal Reserve owned by the government?"
Audience: "No."
Farrakhan: "Who owns the federal reserve?"
Audience: "Jews."
Farrakhan: "The same year they set up the IRS, they set up the FBI. And the same year they set up the Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith… It could be a coincidence… to see black intellectuals free… I want to see them not controlled by members of the Jewish community."

"And you do with me as is written, but remember that I have warned you that Allah will punish you. You are wicked deceivers of the American people. You have sucked their blood. You are not real Jews, those of you that are not real Jews. You are the synagogue of Satan, and you have wrapped your tentacles around the U.S. government, and you are deceiving and sending this nation to hell. But I warn you in the name of Allah, you would be wise to leave me alone. But if you choose to crucify me, know that Allah will crucify you."

is not a friend of liberalism. the first statement is from 3 years ago. (and don't get me started on his statements about homosexuals).

i wouldn't call the man 'inclusive'.

40. WTF? Getting a BJ is the equivalent of being a racist?
That's one of the dumber things I've heard today.

BTW, I think most Jews would forgive Farakahhan if he ASKED for it. I'm not completely sure if Byrd did that, but I'm assuming he did. I'm not the biggest Byrd fan (and for that matter I won't even hold it against a black person being against any KKK member knowing their history of terror in the US against blacks), but I think he has made it clear his association with the KKK was long ago in his past and has nothing to do with who he is now (though I think his corporate whoring is a different matter).

I don't recall Farakahhan asking for Jews' forgiveness or reaching out to make ammends.

33. Here are the only fairly recent CSPAN programs listed at their site
Edited on Sun Sep-24-06 01:39 PM by seasonedblue
There is nothing noted for C-SPAN except for a program hosted by Tavis Smiley in 2005 about the State of the Black Union: Defining the African American Agenda …no video clip available.

And there is a video clip of Farrakhan at the million man march in which he charges America with criminal neglect during the aftermath of Katrina.

However as late as Feb. 2006 “brother” Farrakhan shows his "inclusiveness" in his own words. (from the AntiDefamationLeague site)

Saviours’ Day, Chicago, Illinois, 2/26/06

“These false Jews promote the filth of Hollywood that is seeding the American people and the people of the world and bringing you down in moral strength…It’s the wicked Jews the false Jews that are promoting Lesbianism, homosexuality. It’s wicked Jews, false Jews that make it a crime for you to preach the word of God, then they call you homophobic!”

Saviours’ Day, Chicago, Illinois, 2/26/06

“Is Jerusalem surrounded by armies now? These neocons and Zionists have manipulated Bush and the American government and our boys and girls are dying in Iraq and in Afghanistan for the cause of Israel, not for the cause of America! Israel is the tail waggin’ the dog, which is America. You may not like me, and I really don’t give a damn. I’m throwin’ the gauntlet down today.”

"Christians are in a struggle to discipline themselves to the way of Jesus Christ, and Jews have had same struggle, but there are Jews that ain't strugglin' at all. These are the Hollywood Jews, who say they are Jews but they are not, and until the true Jew point the finger at the false Jew, the false Jew will make the true Jew look bad."
Saviours' Day, Chicago, Illinois, 2/26/06

"And the Christian right, with your blindness to that wicked state of Israel…can that be the holy land, and you have gay parades, and want to permit to have a gay parade in Jerusalem when no prophet ever sanctioned that behavior. HOW CAN THAT BE THE ISRAEL, how can that be Jerusalem with secular people running the holy land when it should be the holy people running the holy land. That land is gonna be cleansed with BLOOD!"
Saviours' Day, Chicago, Illinois, 2/26/06

31. most importantly... no one has stepped up to fill his shoes
anti-semitism and homophobia aside, no one has had the pull to mobilize the masses since Farrakhan.

There have been no mass demonstrations by the black community during the Bush administration despite the hardships inflicted by the regime.

I think we need to look at where do we go from here. How can blacks re-organize themselves. How can non-blacks support their efforts.

The federal government has just stopped collecting surveys on affirmative action from federal contractors (aka our largest companies). Think about it.

While true, no one has mobilized the African-American community to march as he has done (well, Jesse Jackson has done some mobilizing), to say 'anti-semitism and homophobia aside' is fucking insulting! So if David Duke mobilized hundreds of people to march against the war in Iraq (which h is against), you'd be OK with a poster saying, "well, racism and bigotry, aside....?" :puke:

39. Frankly I'm kinda creeped out by those praising the nutcase
This guy just reminds me of a less overweight Jerry Falwell. His rantings sound like something from Pat Robertson. Hell, him and the other two reverands would certainly agree about gays...And hell, maybe if you got deep down to it, their opinion of Jews are probably similar too (only difference is that Robertson and FAlwell need them for the rapture).

I also think his "influence" among the black community is exagerrated. Blacks aren't sheep. They don't just cling to any charismatic figure that comes along. I think it's insulting to believe that so many blacks would just follow some antisemetic loon.

One of my best friends is a black Muslim and I seriously doubt most black Muslims are even members of NOI. While it may sparked initial interest of Islam among blacks, I think most AA Muslims would consider themselves just Muslims. Now granted, I don't know his family history (perhaps his father was or is a follower), but even still, I think many blacks would look at him how many whites look at the other two reverands (granted the most amusing thing about Robertson is his "outreach" to minorities always having a token one or two around) .

57. Believe what you want
As I stated, I don't know how influenced his parents were by Farakahhan, but I doubt my friend really knows or cares much about him.

His influence has waned over the years and I see a few here exagerrating it. And you never explained anything about his homophobia or anti semitism. As far as I'm concerned, he's still a religious cult figure.
