Women among dozens of bodies found in Baghdad

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Four dozen bodies, including those of four women, were found throughout the Iraqi capital during the past 24 hours, police said Friday.

Ten were discovered Friday, including those of the women, and all had been shot to death and showed signs of torture, authorities said.

Separately, gunmen set fire Friday to two deserted homes in northern Baghdad's predominantly Shiite neighborhood of Hurriye, Iraqi emergency police said.

Gunmen fired on firefighters when they arrived on the scene. One police officer was wounded.

2. I've been worried about the "girl" blogger
from Baghdad- Riverbend. She hasn't updated since August 5th and a few days ago the site was down. It's back up now.

Honour killings

The UNAMI report also warned of the increasing number of honour crimes against women in the country.

"In their fight against generalised violence, central, regional and local authorities should provide greater protection to women for crimes committed within the family, including all types of violence against women and girls on the grounds of honour," the report said.

"The killing of a woman in Iraq will not command the same media attention as that of a man. Honour killing is a terror that women in Iraq have been suffering from and those responsible should pay drastically for that," said Nuha Salim, spokesperson for the Baghdad-based NGO Women Freedom Organisation (WFO).

6. It is in the way that they are not often involved in fighting
So this would likely represent a more definitive targeting of civilians for sectarian/cleansing purposes.

Other than that, of course not.

8. You are thinking as a westerner...
in Islamic culture, for good or bad, by women being excluded, they are also protected in some ways.If a man cannot protect his women in the family, he is basically less than a man. This is definantly a sign of worsening conditions. This is why one of the first escalations of violence centered around women prisoners in Abu Ghraib.

Our troops are like worms on an ant hill. The ants are getting ready to swarm the hill.

7. I just get sick when I read this.
I'm having the hardest time with the Insanity that is plaguing Baghdad right now.

For the past 6 years, I've been able to maintain.....although at times it's been shaky....(volcanic anger directed at Bush).

But to every day hear about more deaths..more mayhem, closer to Civil War..

It's already in a Civil War.
