Katherine Harris received $6,000 from the political action committee of U.S. Rep. Bob Ney, who has agreed to plead guilty to bribery charges. U.S. Senate candidate Katherine Harris received a campaign contribution from an Ohio congressman who has agreed to plead guilty to accepting hundreds of thousands of dollars in exchange for political favors, marking the third time the Florida congresswoman has received money from a tainted source.
Harris, who received illegal campaign contributions from a disgraced defense contractor and years ago accepted contributions in one of the Legislature's biggest fundraising scandals, received $6,000 from U.S. Rep. Bob Ney's political action committee, American Liberty PAC, when she ran for Congress in 2002 and 2004.
Harris said Thursday that she can't return the money or give it to charity.

Earlier this year, after lobbyist Jack Abramoff pleaded guilty to bribing Ney for his congressional help, a Washington watchdog group called on Harris and six other Republican Florida lawmakers to return their contributions from Ney. All but U.S. Sen. Mel Martinez refused.

Miami Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart said he'd donate the Ney money, $1,000, to charity. Rep. Mark Foley of Lake Worth said the same thing about the $1,000 he received. And John Mica of Casselberry said he would donate $2,500 to charity as well after Ney's announcement last week that he would plead guilty Oct. 13 to corruption charges.
A spokesman for U.S. Rep. Ginny Brown-Waite said she already has spent the money and won't be returning it. A spokesman for U.S. Rep. Tom Feeney couldn't be reached.
