A senior officer in the British army has said that casualty figures from Afghanistan are being systematically under-reported for political reasons.
Major Jon Swift, who is currently serving in Afghanistan's Helmand province, made the claim in an internal newsletter that far more British soldiers were being injured than official figures suggest.
The newsletter was briefly put on the internet – but was swiflty taken down again shortly afterwards.
Major Swift claims that soldiers are regularly patched up and sent back out into combat, and their injuries are never recorded. He questions 'whether the scale of casualties was being reported in the media, as the overall numbers were very significant and showing no signs of reducing.'
