House panel backs Bush on detainees

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - In an abrupt reversal, a U.S. House of Representatives committee narrowly voted on Wednesday to endorse
President George W. Bush's plan for tough interrogations and trials of foreign terrorism suspects after Republicans rounded up enough members.

About an hour earlier, the
House Judiciary Committee rejected Bush's plan, with three Republicans joining committee Democrats. Embarrassed Republicans then summoned absent members, called for another vote, and approved it 20-19.

Bush's bill, which critics said would result in inhumane interrogations and unfair trials, has met even stiffer resistance in the Senate, and the White House is trying to work out a compromise.

3. Another Republican idiocy that we have to stomach.
Hopefully, it will be a different story in the Senate.

9. Who were the three cowardly GOP schmucks who suddenly flip-flopped?
Names. I want names. Why?

Because their Democratic opponents can absolutely bludgeon them to death in the elections now.

These three cowards "voted against the torture bill before they were for it."

These three cowards "stood up to against President Bush before kowtowing to him."

Names?

13. I don't think the 3 Republicans flip-flopped. (16 dems on the committee+3)
= 19 nay votes. Rather we should focus on the 20 Republicans who voted in favor of the Torture Bill.

"would result in" if Bush's bill passes

the trials were already unfair....it's not a case of "would result in"

and a lot of people are pretending - lying - feeding the illusion that America isn't ALREADY committing crimes...they are pretending it's a case of this will happen if Bush gets his way when the reality is all of this is ALREADY happening and has BEEN happening

but rather than deal with the actuality of events, there are people who would rather manufactured a phony reality...

I'm sick of it.

Anyone that would go along with the pretense that America isn't already breaking the law is a coward and a liar, and they are actively engaged in covering up the crimes that have already been committed

Stop pretending it's not happening already
Stop pretending America doesn't already torture
Stop pretending America isn't already breaking the law
Stop pretending

Pretending only protects the guilty.
