White House to release entry logs
By JOHN SOLOMON and SHARON THEIMER, Associated Press Writers

WASHINGTON - The Bush administration told a court this month it shouldn't have to disclose White House visits by two Republican activists entangled in the Jack Abramoff lobbying scandal because the information was privileged and might reveal how President Bush and his staff get private advice.

However, the administration has now decided to release the White House entry logs for Grover Norquist and Ralph Reed as early as Wednesday evening, settling an election-year legal dispute with the Democratic Party and an ethics watchdog group, officials told The Associated Press.

The logs will show Norquist and Reed attended numerous functions including Christmas parties and policy briefings and met with Bush staff members but had no one-on-one meetings with the president, according to people familiar with the records.

7. I think the trick is...
...That the actual entry logs are offloaded to another agency that nobody knows about. Unless one knows how to ask for it, you can't get the real logs.

This happened to author James Bamford after he wrote his expose on NSA, The Puzzle Palace. After the book was published, Bamford sent a FOIA request to NSA asking for all documents related to Bamford himself. NSA replied that they had nothing. Then, he got the bright idea to ask for all "Esquire" documents about himself, and received hundreds of sanitized pages which showed that NSA considered many different ways of blocking publication of his book.

The code-name "Esquire" had shown up on other documents Bamford had requested in the past, and he got lucky by invoking it. In this case, that obvious loophole appears to have been closed.

10. "The Democratic Party" and others had to sue the WH@

The Democratic Party and Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington had sued the administration to obtain the White House entry logs for Reed, Norquist, Safavian and a few other Abramoff associates between 2001 and 2005.

Former White House lawyer Lanny Breuer, who handled many of
President Clinton's privilege claims, said that administration routinely released White House entry records to the public and never "came close to making a claim like the one being suggested in this instance."

Deliberative and executive privilege claims are "designed to protect the advice the president gets. They are not intended to protect the identities of people from whom he gets that advice or when or where that advice was given from a particular person," Breuer said.

12. Papers show Bush allies' inside access
Another story about same issue on Yahoo-rate it up!

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060920/ap_on_go_pr_wh/abramoff_white_house

WASHINGTON - Republican activists Grover Norquist and Ralph Reed landed more than 100 meetings inside the Bush White House, according to documents released Wednesday that provide the first official accounting of the access and influence the two presidential allies have enjoyed.

The White House released the
Secret Service visit records to settle a lawsuit by the Democratic Party and an ethics watchdog group seeking visitors logs for the two GOP strategists and others who emerged as figures in the Jack Abramoff lobbying scandal.

Earlier this month, the White House suggested to the judge in that lawsuit that such records need not be disclosed because the information was privileged and might reveal how Bush and his staff get private advice, according to court documents obtained by The Associated Press.

White House officials said Norquist, who runs the nonprofit Americans for Tax Reform, was cleared for 97 visits to the White House complex between 2001 and 2006, including a half-dozen with the president.

14. They have been altered and doctored
This government is run by criminals who believe the law does not apply to them, and they will do whatever they please.

I can't believe the public is still falling for nonsense like this.

I don't even pay attention anymore.

This country is beyond a Banana Republic Joke.

16. White House Decides to Release Entry Logs
WASHINGTON (Sept. 20) - The Bush administration has decided to release the White House entry logs that will disclose visits by two Republican activists linked to convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

The administration had told a court earlier this month that it shouldn't have to disclose the visits by Grover Norquist and Ralph Reed. It contended that the information was privileged and might reveal how President Bush and his staff get private advice.
