By DAVE COLLINS

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Democrat Ned Lamont calls rival Sen. Joe Lieberman a "turncoat" in his latest ad. Not so, says the three-term Democratic lawmaker running as an independent, and he has some party support in Connecticut to prove it.

Lieberman welcomed the endorsements Tuesday from several local Democrats, including the mayors of the Connecticut cities of Norwich, West Haven and Waterbury. "This is part of a very encouraging trend that's happening," he said. "We now have a group of respected elected officials that are breaking away from Ned Lamont and are sticking with me."

Last month, Lamont stunned Lieberman in the Democratic primary, seizing the party nomination from the incumbent with a campaign built on his anti-Iraq war message. Lieberman filed as an independent candidate to hold onto his seat while several local and national Democrats shifted allegiances to Lamont.

Lamont dismissed suggestions that Democrats remain torn between the two candidates.

5. How about all your union endorsements, Joe?
Oh yeah, those went to the Democratic nominee. And you're not running as a Democrat, are you Joe? But you're still running. How does that work out -- in your mind -- to not being a turncoat?

6. THERE we go. That's the kind of language
I've been wanting to hear.

You have to pull out the big guns. He's a turncoat and a loser. Strip away those "loyalty" voters.

8. YEAH! Though not completely accurate since he never was a real Dem!
I believe the "spirit" of the disparaging and completely fitting comment shines through.

9. More Joe BS
I liked this part of the quote: "We now have a group of respected elected officials that are breaking away from Ned Lamont and are sticking with me." Joe seems to be saying that these pols have switched from supporting Lamont to backing Joe. First of all, did the mayor of West Haven ever endorse Lamont? If not then how could he "break away" from Lamont? Secondly, who gives a sh!t who the mayor of West Haven endorses? Is there a single person in Connecticut who will read this article and think, "Wow, the mayor of West Haven supports Joe! That's all the reason I need to vote for Lieberman!"

What Joe isn't talking about is the disaster that happened to him on Monday when the positions on the ballot were chosen. The other Republican in the race, Schlesinger, will be first followed by Lamont. Joe will be at the bottom of the ballot in 5th place below 2 other minor party candidates. In some towns he'll be as low as 8th. Despite what they're saying to pollsters now I can't imagine that life - long conservative Republicans are going to go in the voting booth, see "Scheslinger - Republican Party" at the top of the list, and then betray their own convictions by going down to the bottom of the list and voting for one of those tax 'n' spend liberal Democrats that they've been brainwashed to hate.
