Watch your sons for extremism, Reid tells Muslims

The Home Secretary will tell Muslim parents to watch their children closely for signs of Islamic extremism today.



John Reid was expected to give the message in a speech to a specially-picked audience of 60 Muslim parents in Leyton, East London, not far from the scene of the botched police raid in Forest Gate and the arrest of several of the suspects in connection with last month's alleged plot to blow up transatlantic airliners.

"There is no nice way of saying this. These fanatics are looking to groom and brainwash children, including your children for suicide bombing. To kill themselves in order to murder others," Mr Reid will say to an audience of mainly Pakistani origin, with representatives from Bangladeshi and North African Islamic communities as well.

"Look for the tell-tale signs now and talk to them before their hatred grows and you risk losing them forever," he will say, according to extracts of his speech released by the Home Office in advance.

Reid Shouted Down Over Muslim Speech

A protester has called the Home Secretary "a tyrant" after he appealed for Britain's Muslims to join in the fight against terror. John Reid was shouted down during his speech by a man who complained about followers of Islam being arrested. Mr Reid is talking at a secret location in London's East End - the focus of a number of recent investigations into alleged terrorist plots.

The minister had been expected to face tough questioning from the gathering of up to 60 people, who are primarily Pakistani in origin.

6. Brainwashing?

Maybe the Home Secretary should have a word with the Defence Secretary. I believe the oh-so-hip-and-happening Army adverts on TV to be a method of grooming and brainwashing the children of the UK to join up and participate in the ongoing war crimes in Iraq.
