Republicans Call for Ney to Resign
September 19, 2006

WASHINGTON -- A top House Republican on Tuesday called for Rep. Bob Ney to resign, days after the six-term GOP lawmaker agreed to plead guilty to federal corruption charges.

"He betrayed his constituents, he betrayed the body and there's no place for him in the Congress," said Rep. Deborah Pryce, the fourth-ranking Republican in the House.

Last week, Ney admitted improperly accepting tens of thousands of dollars worth of trips, meals, sports tickets and casino chips while trying to win favors for a disgraced Washington lobbyist and a foreign aviation company.

The Ohio congressman had defiantly denied any wrongdoing for months, but he reversed course and agreed to plead guilty in court papers filed Friday. Prosecutors will recommend he serve 27 months in prison.

Ney, who is under treatment for alcohol dependency, was expected to formally plead guilty in court Oct. 13.

Ney is now an admitted felon, not to mention an alcoholic too. Time for him to give it up.

3. I don't get this. This guy has confessed to being guilty, a felon, etc.
Are there no rules in "the House" to oust his sorry ass, just as I'd expect for Jefferson Clinton, and for DeLay (who turned tail before that happened?)?

says that since he hasn't actually plead guilty in court yet, that he might change his mind and that they should wait until then.

What is there to change his mind about?

10. they could expel him but since he's probably in rehab they'll claim
it "piling on" so they'll wait until he comes back from the program and then he'll resign. Bottom line imo is that expelling him looks worse than him resigning.

12. Actually, consulting my Pryce-o-lator . . .
"He betrayed his constituents, he betrayed the body and there's no place for him in the Congress," said Rep. Deborah Pryce, the fourth-ranking Republican in the House.

Here's what she really meant:

"Ney's such a blundering idiot! Imagine actually getting caught for the stuff we all do every day of the week. And having to plead guilty, to boot! Way to fuck it up for the rest of us, you clumsy fool. There's no place for you in the Congress if you can't cover up a little graft and corruption. Dishonesty is okay, even expected, but this was just out-and-out stoopid. Begone!"
