(R PA State Sen) Regolas: Knew gun missing, didn't report it to police
Edited on Tue Sep-19-06 11:46 PM by RamboLiberal

<snip>

During that last conversation, Bobby Regola never asked Louis Farrell(victim) whether he had taken a semiautomatic pistol from the senator's bedroom, even though young Regola had discovered the gun was missing, Rush said.

<snip>

Bobby Regola called his father in Harrisburg and told him the gun was missing, Rush said. Regola's mother and brother, who were staying at the family's hunting camp, were called and were asked if they had taken the gun.

Sen. Regola called his brother, Ron, who also lives on Glenmeade Drive, who went to the house "because his son was scared," Rush said.

Despite their concern over the missing weapon, none of the Regolas contacted the state police.

<snip>

Attorney Jon Perry, of Pittsburgh, who represents Doug and Lauren Farrell, Louis' parents, said the Regolas' failure to notify police about the missing gun "is completely irresponsible."

1. The NRA wants no control of guns
Edited on Tue Sep-19-06 11:30 PM by Erika
just flood the U.S. with guns. Every drug dealer and criminal will truly identify with the NRA "You will never take my gun from these cold hands" Of course the NRA guy has Alzheimers, so to be politically correct to the right wing, don't talk about him for at least 15 years. Sarcasm off.

3. Nah - Regola is not up for election - he won in '04

with a sleazy campaign against a good Dem incumbent. That area of PA has gotten very Red.

What frosts me is the stonewalling in this case - Louis Farrell died nearly two months ago and only now is some of the details from the Regolas trickling out. I have the feeling the DA and State Police are giving this "kid glove" treatment because of the status of Regola's State Senate position.

5. I agree with almost everything you said
but I don't think we're as "red" as you think. Some of us are working hard to turn things around and I know you're one of them.
Sorry I didn't see you at the N. Huntigdon spagetti dinner, I was hoping to put a face on more of the local DUer's.

6. I work in Crafton over on the other side of the Tunnels
so a bit tough to get across town during rush hour. I would've loved to have made the dinner. I think what's made Westmoreland a bit Red at least during the last few years have been new people moving in to some of the McMansion housing plans in the county. I know I saw too damn many Bush/Cheney signs/bumper stickers when I drove through and now I'm seeing some Swann and Santorum signs. But I also enjoyed working with the Westmoreland county dems during the '04 election.

4. Too bad people who knowingly fail to report missing...
...handguns can't be made an accessory to everything done with the gun until they do report it. That might wake a few people up.

10. That's one of the reasons why I hate the NRA
That organization has persistantly used its influence to prevent sane, possible gun laws like the one you just described. Instead of rational gun ownership, the NRA's almost Laissez-faire gun ownership advocacy has led to numberless gun deaths, and probably hasn't made one person safer, either.

7. why was the kid looking for the gun?
"young Regola had discovered the gun was missing" i think the stonewalling is because young regola shot the kid

8. If he thought the house had been broken in to
you might check to see if the gun was missing. The stories did state he came home to find the door ajar. Now is this a lie?

A story a few weeks ago was quickly scrubbed that suggested the Regola kid liked to show the gun off to friends. H'mmm.

It's just amazing to me how this investigation is just dragging. Is it the DA and police being careful or are things being covered up?

11. Daddy IMMEDIATELY hired lawyers for both himself and his son.
Regola is a vile prick. He ran a filthy campaign against a wonderful Dem incumbent and won thanks to all the money he got from the national Republican Party.

In the weeks before this kid's tragic shooting, Bob Regola was busy drafting ANTI-GAY MARRIAGE LEGISLATION. Perhaps Regola would have been better served to pry his sanctimonious nose out of the private bedrooms of consenting adults and pay closer attention to what was going on in his own home.

13. hmmmmm
what is it they are always saying, if you have nothing to hide its no problem. instantly lawyering up get my suspicions up i have to say, if it was all the way they said in the beginning why the need for lawyers? the neighbor kid got ahold of the gun and killed himself, i guess i could see a need for the dad to have a lawyer MAYBE on issues about where the gun was kept but what does the son need a lawyer for?

12. The kid was allowed free access to the gun.
He showed it to other kids in the neighborhood and bragged that he was allowed to keep it in his room.
