FBI reports increase in unsolved rapes
WASHINGTON -- The percentage of rape cases going unsolved nationwide is increasing, according to an FBI crime report released Monday, and bleach, condoms and hats are among the tools used by rapists in recent years to escape punishment.

Last year, police cracked 41.3 percent of rape cases, according to the report -- a half-percent decline since 2004, but a drastic 10 percent drop since 1995. Criminal justice experts speculate that rapists are becoming more sophisticated when committing crimes, leaving less evidence. Experts and police say that may be partly because of crime scene television shows such as 'CSI.'

'They're making their victims shower or bathe,' adds former FBI profiler Clint Van Zandt, who cites crime shows as one possible reason for this trend. 'It gives the criminal with any common sense pause, to think, ‘Hey, there's a way to cover my trail or conceal my DNA.' '

Fewer women were raped in 2005 than in previous years, according to FBI numbers. Even with a staggering 93,934 cases logged by the FBI, rape was the only violent crime whose rate dropped last year, edging down 2.1 percent from 2004.

1. At least we can be thankful they popped Willie Nelson for having flower

leafs on his touring bus. I just don't understand why more people don't realize that we have got to do everything we can to stop the plague of people trying to force our children to buy flowers. Unsolved rapes can wait.

2. Perhaps if they allocated the funds to run the DNA of the
million rape kits just gathering dust on a shelf they could solve more rapes. They wait until they have a suspect before they run the kit.

A few years ago in my town we had a serial rapist on the loose. Finally, after nothing good happening for a couple of years a group of activist women demanded the city do more. They assembled an investigative team that included local and state officials. The city made a big PR deal out of it. Anyway, they finally processed the kits and got a hit in like five minutes and solved the crimes.

This reality is a national disgrace. Why don't our women in congress refuse to go to work until the funds are allocated for processing all of the evidence from the get go? If men were the usual rape victims unlimited funds would be available.

3. It isn't that the criminals have gotten smarter
it's that law enforcement is...again...treating rape like it's some kind of joke.
