New Fox Unit to Produce Christian Films
http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/la-fi-faith19sep19,1,5168410.story?coll=la-headlines-entnews&ctrack=1&cset=true

The company that brought TV viewers racy and irreverent programs such as "Nip/Tuck," "Temptation Island" and "The Simpsons" has found religion.

In the biggest commitment of its sort by a Hollywood studio, News Corp.'s Fox Filmed Entertainment is expected to unveil plans today to capture the gargantuan Christian audience that made "The Passion of the Christ" a global phenomenon.

The home entertainment division of Rupert Murdoch's movie studio plans to produce as many as a dozen films a year under a banner called FoxFaith. At least six of those films will be released in theaters under an agreement with two of the nation's largest chains, AMC Theatres and Carmike Cinemas.

The first theatrical release, called "Love's Abiding Joy," is scheduled to hit the big screen Oct. 6. The movie, which cost about $2 million to make, is based on the fourth installment of Christian novelist Janette Oke's popular series, "Love Comes Softly."

1. faux using the right
What better way to keep the income stream going than produce cheaply-made films. Bet they hire that POS that did the Path film.

Hell, if they can sell bags of *miracle water* to these folks, they should make a killing with this.

9. Sorry, but TestaMints has already been taken!
http://ship-of-fools.com/Gadgets/Food/015.html

"And ye shall find the mint, wrapped in a Bible text, and lying in a Testamints Easter Edition Collector's Tin (four for $19.95)..."

Yes, Testamints are here. Each sweet (spearmint, peppermint and wintergreen) is individually wrapped in one of 40 different verses from the Old and New Testaments. Their mission: "to be the best at providing daily encouragement to all people and enabling Christians to share their faith with others..."

So the next time you're on a train, or killing time in a bus queue, think: Testamint. Pass them round and "do the work of an evangelist." You'll be helping to share the Good Chews.

4. Wanna Bet?
The Christian music industry's been going strong for years.

Now there can be a Christian movie industry, so that Christian actors can be made just as miserable and controlled as the musicians.

7. OK, let's see how smart the target audience is for these films...
HEY GOOD CHRISTIANS:

do you believe:

A. You are being served quality programming because the producers believe in what you believe in and want to help counterbalance the secular tide.

B. You are seen as a big fat dollar sign to the producers who want to use you to stuff their wallets and build that addition on to their house with your money?

oh and btw, the repubs see you as a big fat VOTE and that is all.

8. Boy, these Christians enjoy being blatantly manipulated don't they?
First, they are supposed to give up 10% of their money for tithes, and that is only the beginning. In my next lifetime, I'm going to come back as a preacher. Easy pickings!

14. This is a good thing for everyone
FOX makes money, christians have movies that reflect the things they believe, so maybe they'll stop bitching about the ones the rest of us go to see?!

Seriously, I don't understand how anyone can have a problem with christians making their own movies.

19. Fox shows faith
That a ______________ and his _____________ are soon parted.

The great mystery of how a fool and his money ever got together in the first place remains unsolved.

Quick quiz for the folks who think they'll make buckets of money off this: How many copies of the "global phenomenon" that was "The Passion of the Christ" have been sold in the last three months? Six months? Year? How many were bought as presents for somebody's "unsaved" friend or relative?

I think this market will be a lot smaller than Fox thinks, and this entertainment division will quietly disband within two years. How many movies that they bring out are going to get the humongous marketing that "Passion" did?

20. I happened to see two of that series on TV
They take place in the nineteenth century west, so they don't seem all that inaccurate - like Little House on the Prairie. They just mention God a lot and live the way you'd pretty much expect the pioneers might have - nothing unusually fundie for that era.

They are also politically correct in that they have black characters and Indian characters who are good guys. Bad guys are white. It's like that is a line they don't cross.

22. Fox Trying to Lure Evangelicals
From the News section of http://www.imdb.com

19 September 2006
Fox Gets Religion

In an effort to attract the enormous church-going audience that flooded theaters to see Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ, Fox Filmed Entertainment is expected to announce today (Tuesday) that it is creating a new division, FoxFaith, that will produce as many as 12 films a year, half of which will have theatrical releases and the other half going directly to home video. According to today's (Tuesday) Los Angeles Times, the first theatrical release under the new banner will be Love's Abiding Joy, due to open on Oct. 6 at theaters operated by Carmike Cinemas and AMC Theatres. The studio hopes to attract evangelical Christians who have traditionally stayed away from current movie fare, regarding it as offensive and irreligious. Commenting on the studio's plans, the Times observed: "Fox might seem an unlikely studio to pioneer a religious label, given its history as a purveyor of salacious TV programming. Yet people in the Christian community say the company has gained credibility as the voice for conservative America through its Fox News Channel."

25. By all means, let's make another film of people flogging Jesus
Let's see more holy blood flying all over the place, and let's repeat Gibson's scene in which the High Priest comes to watch the execution of a Jewish patriot by the Roman occupier. Never mind such a thing never happened!
