New York GOP poised to lose all statewide seats to Democrats
ALBANY, N.Y. Democrats in New York state are sitting pretty -- while the G-O-P appears on the verge of its worst defeat in the Empire State since World War Two.
In the first big poll since last Tuesday's primary, every Democrat running for statewide office has a commanding lead over his or her challenger. Eliot Spitzer has 72 to 21 percent advantage in the race to succeed Governor George Pataki.
Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton is 29 percentage points ahead of her G-O-P opponent. Democrats running for attorney general and comptroller are also holding huge leads.
If the Siena College Research Institute poll is right, the Democrats are just weeks away from taking every statewide elected office in New York since 1942.
